ANSWERS Hurdle 16

Q1=1, Q2=3 , Q3=4, Q4=2 , Q5=1 , Q6=3  , Q7=4 , Q8=4  , Q9=3 ,

Q10=4, Q11=1, Q12=4  , Q13=3 , Q14=1  , Q15=1 , Q16=2  ,Q17=
I and III , Q18= D, Q19= A, Q20= B ,Q21= E , Q22= F , Q23=I ,
Q24= K.
Q25= Option 2,  12 animals.  Q26 = Option 3  , Coca Cola  Q27 =
Option 1 , Arundhati Roy.   Q28 = Option 3 , Lara Quigaman.

SOLUTION  - Q 1 to Q 16

From statement 6 to 10 we have

Statement 6. A=C?,S2,P?,O3 or O5, D4

Statement 7. B=C?,S1, P2 or P3, O1 or O2 or O4 ,D?
Statement 8. C=C3 or C5 ,S5,P?,O? ,D1
Statement 9. D=C4,S?,P?,O1 or O4 ,D5 (Cannot be D1 or D4 as
already taken by A and C)
Statement10. E=C2,S4,P?,O5,D? (Cannot be flying to C4 as D is
flying to C4).

Now from statement 3 we can delete O2 from B and confirm that

C is from O2. Delete O5 from A as per statement 10

A=C?,S2,P?,O3, D4
B=C?,S1, P2 or P3, O1 or O4 ,D?
C=C3,S5,P?,O2 ,D1
D=C4,S?,P?,O1 or O4 ,D5
E=C2,S4,P?,O5,D?

Now from statement 4 we have

A=C?,S2,P?,O3, D4
B=C?,S1, P3, O1 or 04 ,D?  (delete  P2 from here also)
C=C3,S5,P?,O2 ,D1
D=C4,S?,P2,O1 ,D5
E=C2,S4,P?,O5,D?

Now from statement 5 we have

A=C?,S2,P?,O3, D4
B=C?,S1, P3, O1 ,D2  ( Confirm D2 as this is only remaining)
C=C3,S5,P?,O2 ,D1
D=C4,S?,P2,O1 ,D5
E=C2,S4,P1,O5,D3

Now from statement 2 we have

So B must be flying to C5 and C must be having profession P4
so we get :
A=C1,S2,P5,O3, D?
B=C5,S1,P3,O4, D2
C=C3,S5,P4,O2, D1
D=C4,S3,P2,O1, D5
E=C2,S4,P1,O5, D3

A=C1,S2,P5,O3,D4
B=C5,S1,P3,O4,D2
C=C3,S5,P4,O2,D1
D=C4,S3,P2,O1,D5
E=C2,S4,P1,O5,D3

India has always been known for providing the world with cheap
clothes, which are then designed by global fashion centres.
However, India is becoming a fashion centre itself, and this
industry in India is bringing in more revenue and job openings.
This is because of the changes in the global textile trade rules
that ended quotas on imports from India. Nomaan, who sits at
Munch Design Workshop, has designed clothes for many global
brands. Indian designers, who take the aid of computers, will
compete with designers worldwide. The finance minister has cut
excise duties in the annual budget.

Summary: DESIGN OUTSOURCING-INDIA TAKES A PLUNGE

The changes in global textile trade rules last year increased the
demand of design and manufacturing in India. India has a long
history when it comes to
craft, fabric, patterns and culture. The availability of high-skilled
manpower, low wages and low cost of infrastructure places
India in an advantageous position as a prospective outsourcing
country. Moreover with the cut in half of the excise duties on man-
made fiber and filament to 8% in last month's annual budget,
India has lot of scope in outsourcing sector.

THE SUMMARY OF THE PASSAGE AT IS:-

Last year's changes in global textile trade rules ended quotas on
imports from India and China. This prompted offshore
companies to save money by linking design and manufacturing
in India.  Earlier, the designs were sent by international firms for
manufacturing in India. But now, designing too, could well be in
India grip, added to it is India's long history of craft, fabric,
patterns and culture, and also lots of skills & manpower. The
law-change also implies a growing competition of foreign
designers with their indian counterparts who are highly skilled
and whose wages are a fraction of theirs. For instance, cost of
one workstation is over 3 lakhs abroad, which is only about a
tenth of it in India.

Not just that, even India's finance minister has reduced the
excise duties to its half ans also approved 10 "textile parks" that
will be given tax concessions. Even software-technology
companies are benefitting from this boom, as an indian firm,
Reach Sewn Technologies, has already begun providing
computer-aided designs that apply mathematical models to
derive the exact measurements for hand-drawn sketches to
global fashion studios. They also sell their licensed product for
about 15 to 20 thousand dollars. India is surely the buzzord now
when it comes to outsourcing.

New wave of outsourcing in India could one day pose a cut-price
challenge to the fashion industry in Europe and the United
States as India is entering the fashion designing industry.The
jobs in this industry were made possible by sweeping changes
in global textile trade rules last year that ended quotas on
imports from countries like India and China and prompted
offshore companies to save money by linking design and
manufacturing in India. The World Trade Organisation estimates
that as a result, India's slice of the 400 billion dollars-a-year
textile market will rise to 15 percent from four percent.Realising
the potential of the industry, Indian Finance Minister cut in half
excise duties on man-made fiber and filament to eight percent in
last month's annual budget.Technology companies are also
jumping on the fashion bandwagon for computer-aided designs
to global fashion studios. The software applies mathematical
models to arrive at the exact measurements for various
sizes.Thus India has huge potential to grow revenues in this
industry.

India used to provide the clothes to all the countries on the basis
of designs provided to them but now India has started designing
as well. This will make India shine in the fashion industry. this is
done only because global textile trade rules has ended the
quotas on imports from countries like India and china and thus
this has made the other countries to save money by doing
designing and manufacturing in India. The world trade
organization estimates that fashion industry market will raise
from 4% to 15%.India has lots of creativity and lot history of
culture. The skilled youngsters are proving themselves capable
enough in designing. Due to this potential of fashion industry,
finance minister has cut the half excise duties on man-made
fiber and filament to eight percent in last month's annual budget.
He had also approved 10 "textile parks" which will get tax
concessions and other incentives. Thus fashion industry is
booming and there are lots more to see in this sector in the

India is fast becoming the hub for design outsourcing, the key
reason being the radical changes made in global textile trade
rules ending the import quotas. India's share in the textile
market is pegged at 15%. With more value-added work flowing
into the country in the form of international brands such as
Levi's, John Players, Dockers and fashion houses Orsay, H et M
and Esprit, the young brigade of designers are just waiting to
grab it. The finance Minister is also doing his bit by cutting excise
duty by half and also approving tax concessions and other
incentives. The application of computer software over the various
stages of apparel manufacture has also created a niche market
for companies like Reach Sewn Technologies.

SUMMARY
  The recent global textile trade rules imposed on the fabric
export have come as a great blow to the fashion industry in
Europe and France .They enable other countries to design and
manufacture their own fabrics.These rules gave a chance to the
offshore companies to be benifitted .The WTO estimates that
India can rise its textile market considerably.The designers of
India are also aware of these changes and they were looking
forward to developing the outsourcing business which was even
supported by the government by reducing the excise taxes on
certain products.

Munch on Tuesday signed an apparel design outsourcing deal
with Orsay, France based fashion house  and is now starting to
design the clothes. The jobs were made possible by sweeping
changes in global textile trade rules last year that ended quotas
on imports from countries like India and China and  prompted
offshore companies to save money by linking design and
manufacturing in India and as a  result textile market will rise to
15 % from 4%. Also rule change means competing with highly
skilled  people in India for designers in Paris and New York. Also
Exports are expected to rose to 16 %  due to cut in half excise
duties on man made fibres and filament. Use of computer
software in fashion designing is increasing and has led few
technology companies to jump in this area. And this new wave
of outsourcing could one day pose a cut-price challenge to the
fashion industry in Europe and U.S.
