You are expected to write an essay on the chosen topic from

Total marks – 50 (each term paper)
Rubrics: Clarity, motivation, and Coherence in describing topics
(10); Critical Evaluation to find the gaps in the given literature (10); Future direction : Limitation and Scope of the current research/ objective , and Impact (10); Citations and Reference (APA style) (10); Organization (10).
Plagiarism is not accepted. 30-40% plagiarism = - 50% marks;
Copying will not be appreciated and will be treated similar to the
plagiarism.
General Points:
1. Font Style – Times new roman
2. Font Size – Title (16) , Name, Roll number, and email id (12), Main heading (14), subheading (12), sub-subheading (11), main body (11) 3. Space – Single spaced in main text body, before and after paragraph – choose auto. 4. Layout – normal layout A4 size. 5. Image, Graph, or Table Caption – font style – times new roman, and font size (10).
There will 3 term papers, focusing on related topics covered
under three modules – mental health, cognitive psychology, and social psychology. Each module will consist of multiple topics. You will be required to pick a topic of your choice for the essay. The topic of the term paper will not be touched deeply or at all in class. This term paper is a chance for you to deep dive into your psychological research / topics of interests. Term paper 1 : Mental health Module Choose one of the topics.
Each topic will be allowed to only 7/8 students. So, please
mark your choices to the excel sheet shared with this description below.
1. Mental Health: The challenges in India, Asia and Western
Society. Do you think these challenges impact the mental health treatment? Critically reflect on changing scenarios of mental health in India and worldwide. 2. Creativity and Mental Illness. Is there a link? What does research inform about this relationship? Critically evaluate the gaps and methods, and discuss its future directions. 3. Understanding, predicting, and preventing suicide. Where are we now? What does research from clinical, cultural, genetics, cognitive, neural, and evolutionary perspectives inform about this complex issue? . Reflect on its future directions. 4. How disordered mind influence general and emotion concept coding? How it disturbs the cognitive and emotional information processing? Choose three psychological disorders of your interest and evaluate their cognitive and emotional disturbances. Evaluate the gap between research and clinical findings. 5. How media projects psychological disorder and shapes individuals understanding about it? Pick at least three movies (one at least from India) and critically evaluate its merits of depiction, followed by its impact on people’s perception of mental health. 6. What is epigenetics? How is it related to child development and mental health? Reflect on its role in nature-nurture debate. 7. What is addiction? Why some people are more susceptible to addiction than other? How their environment, cognitive control/ cognitive architecture, and genes contribute to the choices?

1. How does brain generates mind? What psychology or cognitive
science has to offer us? 2. Why sleep is important? What does psychology/cognitive and cognitive-neuroscience data and models inform about this topic? 3. Why do we dream? Can culture and language shapes dream? Are dreams modality specific or amodal in nature? What kind of theory of cognition accounts for experience of dream ? 4. What is consciousness? Why should we care? What psychology and cognitive science have to offer us? 5. What is self? How culture shapes understanding of self? Do you think that our close and distant relatives (other animals) also share similar psychological phenomenon and processes of self and consciousness? 6. What is altered state of consciousness? Can understanding this would help unravelling the mystery of consciousness? 7. Are we born to experience and express emotion as we do or emotion is constructed? Why it is important to understand ‘how emotions are made’? 8. Is there a link between emotion, motivation, and intelligence? If yes, how it will impact the development of technology aims to interpret, simulate, and predict emotion? 9. How language and culture shapes our perception and knowledge? 10. Are there any universal concepts? How learning theories account for their development in different culture?
