What append when you are ten years old and someone you don’t know came to dine?

When
we are ten years, we do not give much importance to people, even more, when it is an adult.
In the story, the narrator changes its ways of seeing the world thanks to an adult person. The
visit of Mr. Pirzada changes Lilia's way of seeing the world in two important aspects.
Awareness of the heritage from her native country and the other empathy towards people.

When Lilia begins to give importance to Mr. Pirzada’s visits, she realizes that he and her
parents share almost everything. From the similar the way they dress to the language they
speak, and even the food the ate. But even though they have all these aspects in common, this
does not mean that they belonged to the same country. Here is the moment when Lilia found
out her ignorance towards her heritage. This ignorance not only made her father felt
disappointed with her because she knew more about American History rather than her own;
But also motivated Lilia to know more about her background history. At some point in the
story when Lilia's teacher asked her to make a report about America, a situation of prejudice
towards immigrants is perceived, making Lilia realize that searching information about her
country may get her into trouble. So, she only had two options, asking her father or
establishing a bond of friendship with Mr. Pirzada. So, she did both.

The moment she sets this bond with Mr. Pirzada, she not only learns about their history but
most importantly, about empathy towards people.
