2. PRESENTACION
Every English learner knows how to talk about general things of common topics. In this guide you will learn
about specific topics on history, education and general aspects of a city. Here you will be able to practice
and improve your grammar skills by doing some specific activities, don’t forget that the activities are
individual and some answers are personal and shall not be similar to someone else’s.
In this guide we are going to work on present tenses, conditionals, vocabulary items related to
accommodation places and university facilities when visiting a foreign country as the UK. Normally we use
these verbal tenses to talk about non real situations and real situations as routines, and repeated actions
as well as imaginary events.
Develop the following activities in order to learn the expressions, vocabulary and necessary
grammar to describe places, cities and jobs. The activities explore all of the four skills, listening,
reading, and writing so you can practice what you learn through different ways and strategies, this
way we can diagnose your English level and 3 of the 4 skills, so we can design the new lessons by
having that information into account.

2. WHAT THINGS MAKE YOU FEEL THE HAPPIEST? WHAT THINGS MAKE YOU FEEL BORED? WHY?
Rta: For me many things that make me feel happy as be with my family and my animals . Also I feel a lot
of happiness dancing and be with my friends and learn a new things.
I'm very bored with nonsense because we don't get any knowledge for life. Also do not give me
attention to something of interest because I feel that I can help a lot to people with the knowledge that
I have obtained and travel .
Do you know what makes you happy or do you just think you know? At first, these two questions look
the same. If you think something makes you happy, then it makes you happy. You know yourself, don’t
you? Write a list of all the things that make you happy. How many of them are fun? Most of them? So,
if you spend your time doing all these fun things, you’ll be really happy, won’t you?
Well, maybe not. For most people, fun isn’t enough for real happiness. Paul Dolan wrote a book
called Happiness by Design. He thinks happiness comes from both pleasure and purpose. If most of
the things on your list are about pleasure, that is what you think makes you happy. But you also need
activities with purpose. We usually know if something is fun, but we don’t know what brings meaning.
For example, most people think air pilots have jobs with clear purpose. They fly hundreds of people all
over the world. But they spend a lot of time in boring hotels and airports and they do the same things
hundreds of times. Those activities might not bring meaning – and they’re probably not fun. So pilots
also need to find pleasure and purpose in their work and life.
There are different ways we can find purpose in things. Some activities might be motivating because
they work for the good of people and the world around us. Or what you do might help a team you’re
working in. If you’re a student, your ‘job’ is studying and passing exams. It’s easy to do well in subjects
you like, but subjects you don’t like are less motivating. They’re not fun for you, but you have to study
them so you need to find purpose. An A in a subject you hate won’t help the world. But can you be part
of a study team with friends? Each person can study one part until they understand it and then teach it
to the rest of the group. The purpose becomes helping the team.

Now you need to design a happy life. Paul Dolan believes people should ‘decide, design, do’. First decide
what brings you pleasure and/or purpose – that means your two lists. Then, don’t just think about these
activities, fill your life with them. For example, you might love riding a bike but never have time to do it.
So, ride to school or the library or the shops. If you live too far away, take your bike on the bus or train.
Get off early and ride the rest of the way. If you go in the car, put it in the back, stop a few kilometres
away and ride the rest. Or move somewhere you can ride more. Some parts of our lives are good or bad
luck, but we can still design the rest to make more happiness.

But before we find out more, I have the question for this week. Which country do
Rebecca: answers…
Kate: We'll check your answer later, but for now, I'd like to ask you what makes you
happy?
Rebecca: Generally, I'm happiest when I'm just hanging out12 with friends and family and
Kate: Yes, I agree. I always feel happiest when I'm with friends and family14 too.
But enough about us, let's listen to the first extract. Can you hear what it is that makes this speaker
happy?
Man
What makes me happy is slowing down. I think that we live 15 in a very fast, speedy 16 world and
17
we often forget to take stock and take time.
18
Rebecca: He said that 'slowing down' makes him happy. He mentioned the fact that we
live in a fast world and we often forget to 'takes stock'19. This means we should
20
slow down and examine our lives, rather than rush through our daily activities as most of us tend to do.
8. LOOK AT THE SITUATIONS IN THE IMAGES AND SELECT THOSE IN WHICH YOU WOULD BE HAPPIEST, SAY
WHY?

_For me all make me happy because each of these situations leads me to keep doing them why they are
very important in my life for example, with being friends with my friends I amgan to talk to them, give
counts etc. Traveling is one of the happiest things I can do why I can meet new cultures, languages etc.
Share with my family is a unique moment where the union and happiness that can have with each of
the members are also able to achieve the objectives is something that anyone gives happiness for
example to me why they are goals that one wants to achieve to be a better person in a future and have
a happy life.
9. FINALLY, ANSWER THE QUESTIONS IN THE BOX BELOW, REMEMBER TO USE THE SECOND
CONDITIONAL.
LET’S SUPPOSE YOU FIND A MAGIC LAMP AND YOU CAN ASK FOR ANYTHING YOU WANT, WHAT
WOULD YOU ASK FOR?
IF YOU COULD HAVE THE PERFECT LIFE AND BE THE HAPPIEST PERSON IN LIFE WHAT WOULD YOUR
LIFE BE LIKE? DESCRIBE.
WHAT DID YOU FIND EASY AND DIFFICULT ABOUT THIS LESSON? WHAT DID YOU FIND INTERESTING
AND BORING? WHY?
Rta: 1 I would ask that my family always be with me that we never know if why the greatest gain can
have is the family.
2: It would be a life of great success for me like for my family and a lot of happiness that everyone wants
to have without having sadness or be angry and a life of large luxuries, a lot of family member in
addition to friends who help and give happiness.
3:The easy it was that I could describe what makes me happy in my life telling things that I am
passionate and learn new words. The difficult was a bit of the audio of the dialogue that in some parts
he did not know what they were talking about and had to return to hear well.
