PSC 101 Final Examination:

1. Discuss the importance of having a Constitution.
First and foremost, the 1987 Constitution of the Philippines is the source of liberty
we make use of as the citizens of our country. It protects individual freedom by limiting
the power a government has over its people. This makes sure that the rights of the people
are recognized for a just and humane society. Secondly, the constitution provides the
framework of how our governing body runs and how the people are to be governed.
There is a clear-cut division of powers between the three main organs of the government,
namely, the legislature, executive and judiciary. The Constitution then helps these organs
of the governments to keep checks and balances over each other while performing the
responsibilities assigned to them. This is to ensure that those who conduct governmental
functions are unable to perform acts of abuse and corruption. Lastly, the national goals of
our country are written in the constitution which serves as a guideline for the prosperity
and peace of our beloved country.
2. Why is it necessary to introduce to students the Constitution and discuss its contents?
While one is a student, he/she is also considered as a citizen of our country which
entails that they have duties and responsibilities to adhere to our nation. Though it is not
necessary to be fully knowledgeable of our Constitution, it is both a need and a right to
have at least basic or satisfactory knowledge regarding the basis of our laws. This ensures
that one is informed and fully aware of either when their rights or others rights are being
stepped on and be liable of their actions. Also, it is necessary to introduce the
Constitution to students since it hones their concern and interest towards the political
events and conditions in our country. Basically, studying the Constitution is necessary so
that each generation is aware of the fundamental laws of the country, governing
principles on the affairs of the state, and the right of the people being governed and their
public officials.

3. State/discuss/explain/ your realizations after concluding PSC 100.

After concluding the PSC 100 course, I have understood that we, the citizens of
the Philippines are given many privileges and rights concerning various subjects. By
learning the different articles and sections of the Constitution, it gives us a better
opportunity to fully exercise our freedom and protective rights. Additionally, with the
knowledge acquired from this course, instances of corruption, abuse, discrimination and
etc. may be avoided and dealt with properly. Therefore, I have understood that taking this
course in not only beneficial for our nation but most importantly for ourselves as the
people residing in this country.

4. What particular topic (excluding those not discussed inside the classroom) has struck our
mind and why?
One particular topic that has retained in my mind which was discussed inside the
classroom was a tweet by an Ateneo student regarding Jollibee if I remember it correctly.
The tweet was regarding how these students refused to eat at Jollibee because it was
“pang-masa” or rather food for the common people. It has struck me of how the social
classes of the Philippines were so far apart. These students which probably belong to the
higher strata in the Philippines does not only prove the social inequality occurring in the
Philippines but also the discrimination against the common people. Also, it is truly
disappointing how instead of indulging ourselves on Philippine products some still prefer
those produced by other countries.
