Q.1. Three resistors R, R and 2R are connected in parallel and supplied by a constant current source ‘I’.
Determine the current in the ‘2R’ resistor. [2]
Q.2. By applying any of the network theorems, determine the currents supplied by the two batteries in
the circuit shown in figure 1. Also state whether the batteries are charging or discharging [4]
Figure 1.
Q.3. By using thevenin’s theorem, determine the current in the 12.5 Ω resistor in Fig 2. [4]
Figure 2.
Q.4. If the network shown in Fig 3a has to be shown as fig 3b determine the values of R1, R2 and R3
[3]
Q.5. By applying KCL at node ‘V’ determine the current supplied by the ac source given in figure 4
[5]

Q.6. A load consisting of a resistor and an inductor in series takes a current of 40A at a power factor of
0.7 lagging from a 440 V, 50 Hz, Single phase supply. [5]
(a) Draw the phasor diagram indicating the voltage and current phasors
(b) If a capacitor of 107uF is connected in parallel to the load, calculate the supply current and
the power factor
Q.7. A D.C shunt generator has its armature resistance as 0.1 Ω and field resistance as 50 Ω. On no
load it develops 200V when run at a speed of 1000 rpm. When on full load with speed of machine
remaining the same, determine the load current if the terminal voltage has dipped to 180V. also
calculate the efficiency [5]
Q.8. A DC shunt machine generates 250V on no load, when run at 1000 rpm. When the machine is run
as a dc shunt motor, it takes 4A when connected to a 250V DC supply. Given armature resistance
of 1 ohm and field resistance as 200 ohm calculate the speed and efficiency of the machine when
it takes 40A at 250V. [4]
Q.9. Given the per phase resistance and synchronous reactance of a synchronous generator as R a and
Xs, the induced emf E, terminal voltage V and the current I, and the power factor of the connected
load as cosθ lag. Draw the phasor diagram. There from derive the expression for the percentage
voltage regulation. Using the derived result, determine the percentage voltage regulation, given R a
= 0.4 Ω and Xs = 5 Ω.
Q.10. Using ideal diode model, Plot the Vout in the circuit shown in figure 5. [4]

Q.12. Write the truth table for the logic diagram shown in figure. Derive the Boolean equation and the
implement the equation using NAND gates [4]
