OGL 340 MODULE 1 REFLECTIONS ON MINDFULNESS

Module 1: Reflections on Mindfulness

When taking a moment to sit quietly, breathe, and reflect on mindfulness the rapid fire

in my mind begins to slow. I find that my mind races a lot. By taking a moment for mindfulness

you can truly take in your surroundings. When my mind is rapid firing the most, I find that I am

thinking about my work schedule, due dates for school assignments, finding time to study, and

any other errands that I may need to run in the upcoming week. When quieting the rapid fire, I

truly realize how much is on my mind. Being able to let go of my thoughts one by one and

focus on the current moment I’m in helps to me to embrace mindfulness.

I believe that live in a busy, technology driven world has prompted an interest in

mindfulness in the workplace. I believe that there are many busy one the go people who find

themselves feeling overwhelmed, especially in the workplace but outside of the workplace as

well. I believe that because the workplace can be the stem of stress for many people.

Therefore, mindfulness has become a growing interest. By incorporating mindfulness into your

work, you can find an inner calm that helps you to produce your best work. Many people do

have trouble producing their best work when they are overwhelmed. Mindfulness can put a

person into the right mindset to do their best work and to live a better life.

I can see myself benefiting in many ways from practicing mindfulness. I often find

myself overwhelmed and stressed out. Many times, I feel this way when I am planning my

week. My work schedule changes from week to week which means that there is little

consistency in my weeks. I plan on practicing mindfulness during the time when I am stressing

out when planning my week. When it is Monday morning and I am stressed about the working

and writing papers on the weekend, I will bring my mind back to Monday and find calm by

finding self-awareness in the moment.
