Men and Women for Others: Helping the poor people

The mission of our school is ‘Men and Women for others’. This Jesuit core value

teaches us to be there for our fellow brothers. Men and women for others involves helping

others and having concern for the poor. There are many instances in which we can show this.

It is a good deed to assist others especially in times of need. Caring for others is an excellent

thing to do, we are able to show others that their lives matter. There are many challenges that

the poor people face and they need help.

When we help the poor, we are showing love. This can be done by simple acts such as

sharing our food, donating clothes, and providing water. Often times, young individuals are

unable to go to school because of financial problems. If we are fortunate enough, we can help

to pay school tuition; if not, we can share our knowledge with them. Acts of kindness can

show them that we care for them. The needy also involves people with disabilities. Especially

in this time we are going through with the COVID-19 pandemic, disabled people need the

most help. Help can be provided by helping them get items around their homes. We can go

out and buy them essential items since they are unable to do so themselves. Of course, we

must wear our mask and wash hands often. I also think about elderly people who require

love, it is always good to remind people that they are loved. We can also spend time with

them and help their spiritual and mental well-being if we don’t have much physical stuff to
offer. The smallest acts can play a huge role in helping and caring for others, this is a way we

can live out the core value which is ‘men and women for others’. Whether it being paying

someone’s tuition or giving encouraging words, men and women for others can be seen. We

must have God at the base of this for he is the one that will provide the ultimate help through

us.

It is important to show the Jesuit core value ‘men and women for others’ because we

are showing that we don’t only care for ourselves but we also care for the needs of others,

especially those that are less fortunate than we are. By doing this, we are also showing

gratitude and other people can begin to do the same for different individuals in our

communities. We work together, help each other and grow together.
