Project Description

From the American Revolution to the cyber revolution, spies and saboteurs among us have caused lasting
damage to our national security. The National Counterintelligence and Security Center, part of the Office of the
Director of National Intelligence, leads America’s Counterintelligence (CI) and Security community to keep
America safe from these adversaries. Learning from the past is a key part of our mission so NCSC has
embarked upon a multi-year research and writing project to capture our espionage and sabotage history.

The result, called the Wall of Spies Experience, includes detailed accounts of more than 135 spies who betrayed
America, as well as the evolving tradecraft they used -- from ciphers, to dead drops, to digital encryption. With
the completion of the Wall of Spies Experience physical installation in our headquarters, NCSC is also breaking
ground on a digital version that will make all of this material accessible to the public. NCSC will begin posting
the current material from these exhibits--plus additional spy stories, images and videos--on Intelligence.gov, the
digital front door for the U.S. Intelligence Community, which is devoted to expanding public understanding of
our activities, authorities, and our people.

The digital Wall of Spies is in the early stages and we would love to have motivated lovers of history join our
team. The selected virtual interns will work remotely to build upon previous research, identify additional spies
and saboteurs to include in the Digital Wall of Spies, find new multimedia content, draft compelling writeups to
educate and inform readers, and help us make this content accessible to the American public. You will work
virtually with our graphic design team to make your work come to life, providing you a sense of contribution
seeing your work posted online to educate and inform readers everywhere.

As General George Washington stated during the Revolutionary War, “There is one evil I dread, and that is their
spies, I could wish therefore that the most attentive watch was kept…”
Help us keep watch.
