Striking Vipers: The future of Virtual Intimacy

Have you ever played a virtual reality game? It is an artificial environment created by a software wherein a person
playing a game is believed to be on another world by manipulating two of our five senses: sound and sight. It has
something to do with the film we are about to review today, Striking Vipers. It was released on June 5, 2019 along with 2
more installments that made up the fifth season of Black Mirror, a sci-fi TV series that talks about the future society and
mainly the technological consequences it may occur to us. Without further ado, let’s get on with the spoiler-free review of
Striking Vipers!

Striking Vipers is about two long-time best friends, Danny and Karl, who have recently reconnected through the
help of the VR version of their favorite game, Striking Vipers, and found out a shocking discovery that made them
question their own identities.

As you go halfway of the film, you can already see how adverse the effects of technology can be, Danny’s
addiction on the virtual reality game with Karl brought up challenges that affected both of them in their personal
relationships around their loved ones, especially Danny’s relationship with her wife and their own personal and virtual
identities. The film ended with a favorable resolution, which is unusual because most of Black Mirrors’ episodes ended
with a gruesome twist.

When it comes to its creative elements, I was amazed on how the combination of the dialogue, the actor’s
portrayal of its character, and the shots on each frame made a clear view on the overall mood and tone of the film. I also
realized that even if I have not given much attention to the background sound, it also helps in contributing to the overall
presentation of the film.

In conclusion, Striking Vipers is a good film that you can enjoy and contemplate to because of its immersive plot
that will really make you wonder about the future of our technology and its great creative elements that supports the plot
and make the film a must watch especially for science fiction watchers like me!
