PURPOSE OF CALCULATION:

1) The purpose of this calculation is to determine the relief loads and their properties for all the relief scenarios
mentioned

and determine the governing scenario. The data will then be used to generate the data sheet for this valve.

Note: This Calculation is also applicable for the following PSV's which are on air receiver of same capacity:
PSV-175 - 1031-D-002B
PSV-211 - 1031-D-002C

INPUT DATA AND ASSUMPTIONS:

• HYSYS simulation
The PSV calculation files are located at:

Relief loads were calculated for the following scenario.

Fire Case: Fire Relief Load Calculation & sizing.

GENERAL BASIS OF DESIGN:

-Conventional type valve is selected, back pressure is expected less than 10% of set pressure. PSV discharge line open to ATM.
-Sizing calcs based on allowable overpressure for single valve of 10% for non fire and 21% for fire scenarios.
-Loads and PSV size are calculated for PSV-171.

7. FIRE CASE

In case of fire, if the air receiver discharge line valve is closed, the pressure will start to increase in the system and the PSV will be required to relieve the air
once it has increased to the set pressure of the valve.
The relief load for the fire case has been considered based on PE-529 calculation spreadsheet (Page 5 of 7).The relief valve was sized using the Bechtel
standard PSV sizing vapor critical spread sheet PE-523.
.

Relief temperatures have been estimated based on Bechtel fire relief load calculation (gas expansion) program PE-529.

Set pressure 40.5 kg/cm2g

Accumulation 21 %
Relieving Pressure 49.01 kg/cm2g

Relieving temperature at RV inlet = 173 degC

Considering 10% back pressure at RV outlet, RV outlet temperature = 169 deg C

See Hysys PFD snapshot (Page 7 of 7) for calculation of relieving temperature & PSV discharge line properties.

Vapor Relief Load 18131.0 kg/hr

Molecular weight 28.95
Required Orifice Area 555 mm2
The selected orifice is K orifice.
Set Pressure 40.5 kg/cm2g
Relieving Pressure 49.01 kg/cm2g -21% Accumulation
Relieving Temperature 173 deg.C

Based on the above data the PSV-171 was sized for the fire case. All data regarding conditions for sizing & relief load for the valve is shown on the
PE-523 calculation spreadsheet (Page 5 of 7) and PE-529 calculation spreadsheet (Page 6 of 7).

CONCLUSIONS:

A) Relief Load requirement for

7. Fire Relief Load 18131 kg/h

B) Governing scenario is fire case.

C) Selected Orifice size is K.

D) Relief loads shall be verified during EPC phase.
