Introduction

CMASS STP is a modified Complete Mix Activated Sludge Process which treats the waste water in a 5
stage process comprising of a screening and grit removal, an equalization basin (former claridigester), an
aeration tank which utilizes bio-media, a lamella clarifier and a disinfection unit.

The concept of its treatment is simillar to that of an SBR which uses activated sludge technology as its
main process for its treatment. Moreover, The use of bio-media to recuperate from the area constraints
of the aeration basins together with a separate clarifier for solid settling is what makes its process unique
from other treatment system.

SIEMENS Inc. retrofitted the plant from what we previously known as a claridigester, which they
modified the process with a design influent plant parameter of; 220 mg/L for BOD 5, 500 mg/L for COD
and 220 mg/L for TSS. the design was made to comply DAO 35 standards for Class C water sources with
effluent characteristics of; <50 mg/L for BOD 5, <100 mg/L for COD and <70 mg/L for TSS.
