Animals are categorized into three groups on the basis of the nitrogenous waste they eliminate from their body. They
are:
1. Ammonotelic
2. Ureotelic
3. Uricotelic
Ammonotelic:
Those animals which principally eliminate ammonia (NH3) as their nitrogenous waste are called Ammonotelic
and this process of elimination of ammonia from the body is called ammonotelism.
Synthesis of Ammonia:
During the metabolism of proteins and nucleic acids aminoacids are produced. Ammonia is produced due to
deamination of amino acids ie, removal of amino group (NH2) from the amino acid. The released amino group
accepts hydrogen atom and forms ammonia. This process of formation of ammonia is called oxidative
deamination of amino acids
