Exploring Low Cost Alternatives in Eradicating Food Waste in Fast Foods And Restaurants in
Dumaguete City

Problem Statement: Food waste is a very concerning issue in the Philippines today. It is
estimated that around 1.3 billion tons of food are wasted annually with an average Filipino
throwing away roughly 3.29kg every year. The main culprits of food wasting are restaurants and
fast food chains, and Dumaguete City has been a hub for food service business as it has an ideal
location and demography for such.

Questions:
- How will the reduction of food waste directly benefit the local government of Dumaguete City?
- How do we ensure that the operating cost of reducing food waste in Dumaguete would turn out
to be a good investment in the long run?
-What are the specific steps that we will need to undertake in order to convince the restaurants
and fast foods in Dumaguete to donate their excess food to the local government?

Proving the Viability of Replacing Tricycles with Jeepneys as a Means of Reducing Traffic in
Dumaguete City

Problem Statement: The considerable growth of Dumaguete metropolis has had a handful of
negative effects to the populace itself. One of it is the road traffic, which was close to non-
existent during the earlier years of the 21st century. Public utility vehicles has been proven in
recent local studies to be the second most traffic-causing transportation group in the growing
cities such as Dumaguete. We need to explore new alternatives even if we’d have to do away
with the traditional if we want to solve this problem.

- What would be the primary impact of removing tricycles to the lower and middle-class
commuters?
- How will Dumaguete LGU rehabilitate the jobless former tricycle operators?
- How can we establish travel routes and stopover points without affecting the overall
productivity of the average commuter?

Assessing the Possible Effects of Removing 7AM Time Slots in Regular Day Classes in Silliman
University for the Well-Being of the Students

Problem Statement: There has been a lot of specified scientific studies that suggest early-
morning classes greatly affect the well-being of college students from around the world. It is
thoroughly indicated that the average student’s brain functions normally not earlier than 9AM in
most cases. Silliman University is one of the most prestigious schools in the country, but it’s 7AM
time slot is indisputably dreadful to the students.

Questions:
- How will the changes maximize the potential of each student in Silliman University?
- What will be the consequences of removing the 7AM time slot on the productivity of the
faculty?
- How will the removal of 7AM classes effect the physical and mental health of the average
student?
