Answer:
Some people prefer talents, others value efforts in training and learning sports or music. My essay will discuss both views
Firstly, different situations will decide the outcome of talents. My cousin, for example, is a gifted pianist, as he picks up
rhythm and tones quickly. But his musical talent is left undeveloped because his parents want him to be a doctor. On the
contrary, talents surely flourish if nurtured properly. Michael Phelps, the most decorated Olympian of all time, received
every support possible from his family and coach. He said that whenever he wanted to give up, his mother and coach gave
him a huge confidence boost, as they believed in his potential to be successful in every swimming competition.
Secondly, what if a child only receives training and coaching regardless of talents? It depends. If “being good” means
playing a piece of classical music well or engaging in sport activities at a certain level, then training and coaching surely
help. Improvements in any field, not just music or sport, require mentorship. My brother can play badminton with anyone
after training with a coach. But if he wishes to be a professional, is this plausible? He admits not to be. If “being good”
means being a competitor or a professional musician, talents, again, are necessary. The natural physical movement, sports
IQ, or fine control of melodies separate an average athlete or musician from an excellent one, the top 1% of the world.
I would encourage a child to train under a competent coach, even if he or she is not naturally gifted, because gaining skills
is still a better choice. Natural gift is a plus, but it still needs learning and training to fully develop; if so, I prefer to guide
children to train hard, because training is necessary for every child, while not all of them have talents.
