Teacher of English as an Additional Language

Educational Qualifications
The successful candidate will be sufficiently qualified that they can legally be employed by
St. Lawrence College as a full-time teacher. It is highly likely that they will hold a
Bachelor’s degree as well as a qualification for teaching English as an additional language
and will certainly possess perfect skills in all aspects of the English language.

Teaching Experience
The successful candidate will likely have experience of teaching EAL to children.
Experience of a British educational system would also be preferred but is not essential for
this position.

Personal Characteristics
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a proven record of professional
reliability, punctuality and excellent attendance record in previous employment. A native
speaker of English is preferred and the successful applicant will also have very strong
English communication skills – both written and oral. The successful candidate will be
able to work closely with colleagues and will be able to show initiative and enthusiasm in
their teaching. The successful candidate will possess an awareness of and a positive
attitude towards British educational values and will also have an understanding of the
importance of pastoral care, placing equal value on pupil wellbeing and development
both in and out of the EAL classroom. The academic and pastoral values of the school will
be promoted to maintain a happy, safe, and both academically and socially fulfilling
environment for our pupils.

Child Protection
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a suitability to take up such a
teaching position in the context of child protection in line with the expectations of British
schools throughout the UK and the wider world. This will include cooperation with the
school in the procurement of background checks as appropriate.
