Linear Programming - Simplex Method

Instructions
Solve the following linear programming problems using the simplex method. Use the
standard simplex method for maximization problems, and use the dual simplex method for
minimization problems. You are given 12 hours to complete this assessment.

Problem 1: A factory makes tennis rackets and cricket bats. A tennis racket takes 1.5
hours of machine time and 3 hours of craftsman’s time in its making while a cricket bat
takes 3 hour of machine time and 1 hour of craftsman’s time. In a day, the factory has
the availability of not more than 42 hours of machine time and 24 hours of craftsman’s
time. If the profit on a racket and on a bat is Php 20.00 and Php 10.00 respectively,
find the maximum profit of the factory when it works at full capacity.

Problem 2: A manufacturer produces nuts and bolts. It takes 1 hour of work on machine
A and 3 hours on machine B to produce a package of nuts. It takes 3 hours on machine
A and 1 hour on machine B to produce a package of bolts. He earns a profit of Php 35
per package on nuts and Php 14.00 per package on bolts. How many packages of each
should be produced each day so as to maximize his profit, if he operates his machines
for at the most 12 hours a day?

Problem 3: In 1969, the two leading dietary drinks available in the market are Bandade
and Firstade. These drinks supply protein and carbohydrates lost during physical
activity. Bandade provides 1 unit of protein and 3 units of carbohydrates in each liter.
Firstade supplies 2 units of protein and 2 units of carbohydrates in each liter. Bandade
costs Php 2.00, and Firstade costs Php 3.00. An athlete named DWade requires 3 units
of protein and 5 units of carbohydrates. Find the amount of each drink that DWade
should consume to minimize the cost and still meet the minimum dietary requirements.

Problem 4: A chicken farmer uses a mixture of two chicken feeds: B-Meg and Pigrolac.
Each pack of B-Meg contains 12g of protein, 2g of fat, and 16g of carbohydrates. Each
pack of Pigrolac contains 6g of protein, 1g of fat, and 18g of carbohydrates. B-Meg
costs Php 14.00 per pack, while Pigrolac costs Php 10.00 per pack. The chicken farmer
must buy chicken feeds that have at least 60g of protein, 8g of fat, and at most 180g of
carbohydrates. Determine the number of packs of B-Meg and Pigrolac that will produces
a mixture satisfying the given restrictions at minimum cost.
