My Journal: IMMERSION

Day 1
April 10,2019

My first day was full of learnings. In the first half of my day, I was assigned to the Microbiology
I was taught of different microorganisms. I learned the difference of Gram positive and negative
and I was hands-on in smearing the sputum in the agar plate. The other half of the day, I was
assigned to the Water Analysis department where in I learned to prepare the bottles that will be
used to test the sterility of the water from different clients.

Day 2
April 11,2019

Second day was also fun. Serology was the department I was assigned at the first half of the day.
I learned using the different machines in extracting the serum from the blood and I tested using
the pipette. In the afternoon, I was assigned to Clinical Chemistry. I was hands-on in doing the
paper works and endorsing in different parts of the whole hospital.

Day 3
April 12,2019

This was my busiest day. I was assigned to the Information department for a whole day I
experienced giving results to the patients who needed them. It was an ecstatic experience.

Day 4
April 15,2019

On the first half of the day I was assigned to the Histopathology department where I learned how
to prepare the smear samples from the biopsy which the professional doctors will look into the
microscope. The second half of the day I was at the Hematology department. I observed on how
they take tests on blood samples and how they produce smear samples of it.

Day 5
April 16,2019

For the last day I was placed on Parasitology and Urology which were located the whole day. For
the whole day we endorsed their results in fecalysis and urinalysis to the different parts of the
hospital. I also learned to detect different pathogens just by looking at the microscopic images of
the stool samples. I was very happy of this experience.

MY JOURNAL

Western Visayas Medical Center

Day 1
May 6 2019

Call time is 6:45 am in the morning we gathered in front of WVH for our assembly.
Afterwards we got opportunity to tour around the hospital for familiarization. Then we got to our
designated area. I got to learned a lot from our head Sir Joel and J about hospital rules and how
things works inside the hospital (Esp.psyhe ward).

Day 2
May 7 2019
I was assigned in OB ward.Is somewhat weird a guy assign in OB ward but being a nurse
is a tremendous works.You need to check every patient(mother) about hows it going with their
baby.At the end of I learned lot of things.
Day 5
April 13, 2019

Last day of immersion. I was assigned in Minor OR.Where they perform minor surgery
like circumcisions,etc.I got a chance to witness a minor operation (circumcision) but there's more
the doctor ask me to become her assistant in circumcision.

Day 3
May 8 2019

My 2nd day in OB ward.I met Ms. Gladys,head nurse of OB ward. We distributed a


branded baby shampoo in every patient. Then we observed how they vaccinate the new born
babies.I got opportunity to interview some of the nurse and patient about the condition in OB
ward and how thing is going.

Day 4
May 9 2019

I'm back again here in Psyche ward. I got a chance to meet and have a conversation with
2 of the patient. There I got opportunity to know their story. And we played boardgames as we
talks about each other. But this day been a rough day I was moved to another department.
