Basics of Mathematics Learning Process

1. What do you expect by taking this subject (Basics of Mathematics Learning Process)?
Explain the answer!
Answer:
I expect that i know more about basic knowledge of mathematics learning process at
school, the purpose of mathematics learning, also know the standard and principles of
mathematics for school. And i expect that i know about models of mathematics learning
and make new innovation for mathematics teaching and learning in school that suitable
with this era. And i can know what the competences as a mathematics teacher. So i can
prepare about my skill, competences and knowledge about my profession in the future,
as a mathematics teacher. So i can be ready to be a professional mathematics teacher in
the future.

2. In your opinion, how is the profile of an ideal or professional mathematics teacher?


Explain your answer in a comprehensive view!
Answer:
a. The ideal mathematics teacher is a teacher who has five intelligences, they are
intellectual, moral, social, emotional, and motor intelligence.
b. The ideal mathematics teacher is a teacher who good at math and always
improving their ability in mathematics.
c. And also be able to explain very clearly and students can easily understand the
explanation.
d. The teacher must be patient and confident. Patience with students who have
problems or students who are slow in understanding mathematics because the
abilities and characteristics of each student are different and the confidence that
shows that we are able to teach them mathematics so that their hopes to good at
mathematics can be realized.
e. And also the ideal mathematics teacher must be good motivator for the students
that they are can be good at math.
3. Theoretically, eight teaching skills must be possessed by a teacher. Explain as far as
you know about this theory!
Answer:
a. Skill of starting (set induction) and closing lesson (closure)
Skill in starting lessson is the effort of teacher to create pre-condition such that
students’ attention stay focus and be ready to join the lesson and also gaining
students’ attention, giving motivation, giving reference, explaining the relation
with the other material, and teacher make summarize and evaluate the lesson
when it the lesson is finished.
b. Skill of addressing question
Teachers need to address question effectively. The parameter of effective
question is when the question can lead the students to think critically and
creatively in addressing the answer.
c. Skill of giving reinforcement
Reinforcement is any responses, verbal or non verbal, part of modification of
teacher’s action, in order to give feedback for his achievement to support
more. Reinforcement can be in a form of acknowledgement, support, warm
acceptance, etc.
d. Skill of creating variation
Teacher sould make some variation on learning context to counter the bored
situation of lesson. It can be variation of the way of teaching, focus, eye
contact, movement, expression, as well as the use of learning media.
e. Skill of explaining material
This is about skill to organize and to present material in a systematic
presentation. It includes planning and presenting material.
f. Skill of guiding small group discussion
Group discussion is ruled process involving some students to meet informally
to share ideas, draw conclusion, or solve problems.
g. Skill of organizing the classrooms
This is the skill to create and keep the good condition in order to run the lesson
smoothly. The preventive and repressive actions are eventually needed to
maintain the well managed class.
h. Skill of teaching both group and individual
Sometimes teacher needs to divide his class into groups. Group needs to be
managed well in order to achieve the learning goal. For individual, teacher
needs skill to do personal approach toward the individual.

4. There are known four teaching competencies: professional competency, personality


competency, social competency, and pedagogical competency. Explain what have you
been done/are you gonna do in fulfilling those competencies!
Answer:
Actually i havent been done with those competencies. From the previous semester i was
learned about the material of mathematics. I still need to learn more about the material
that i get from previous semester. And know i still learn how to be a good teacher, how
can be good in communicate, also how can be good in mathematics material, and how
can be organizing students.

5. Up until now, what kind of preparations have you been done to become a mathematics
teacher? Explain briefly!
Answer:
For now, I haven't done much preparation. At this time I am often asked for help by
some children in my area to help them in their unclear understanding of the material,
especially mathematics. I can use this to help me practice communicating well with
students in teaching.
