Can anyone tell me we learned

about last week? Yes! We learned about John pointing people to Jesus.

John was baptizing people with water, but he said that there was somebody greater than he was, who
would baptize people with the Holy spirit. John believed that Jesus was more important than himself, and
said that Jesus must increase, but I must decrease. He said that whoever believes the Messiah, this Son of
God will have eternal life.

11:29-11:30 – Discussion

Do you guys know what the term Rabbi means? It was a title given to a respected expert in the law of
Moses. A rabbi studied Scriptures and taught through speaking and writing. Jewish people wanted to
honor God in how they lived, and they looked to the rabbis to instruct them in their behaviour.

Usually, Jewish students would go out to look for a rabbi and ask to follow him. A rabbi would choose
only a few highly promising students to be his disciples. The chosen ones would follow the rabbi
everywhere and learn how to think and act from him. They trusted the rabbi, and the goal was to
become just like him.

BUT when Jesus chose his disciples, his strategy was completely different. He went out to look for the
disciples himself!! And these were just regular people!

1 Cor 1

The call to follow Jesus is not an easy one. Jesus said, “If anyone wants to
follow after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.
What does it mean to deny yourself and take up your cross???

Hear: God is calling us to be his disciples! This means to take up our cross and follow him.
Obey: We have to love him and our neighbours around us. We have to teach others about Jesus.
