11:20-11:22 – Recap

Can anyone tell me we learned

about last week? Yes! We learned about John pointing people to Jesus.

John was baptizing people with water, but he said that there was somebody greater than he was, who
would baptize people with the Holy spirit. John believed that Jesus was more important than himself, and
said that Jesus must increase, but I must decrease. He said that whoever believes the Messiah, this Son of
God will have eternal life.

11:29-11:30 – Discussion

What does it mean to be born again?

Every person is born as a sinner. This means that we inherently we fall short of God’s commands such as
loving him and loving our neighbours with all of our heart mind soul strength.

Fortunately, because of Jesus’ death and resurrection, if we truly believe that he saved us from sin, then
we are forgiven and we become born again. Now, not only do we have our earthly parents, we also have
God as our father now. We now have the Holy Spirit, which is God, that dwells in us.

Being born again means to get rid of all of our past selves with the help of the Holy Spirit. These are
things like bad habits, things that we did in the past that would hurt others or displease God, and now
instead love God and others.

John 3: 1-7

There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. 2 This man came to Jesus by
night and said to Him, “Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these
signs that You do unless God is with him.”

3 Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born [a]again, he cannot
see the kingdom of God.”

4 Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his
mother’s womb and be born?”
5 Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot
enter the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is
spirit. 7 Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’
