Dear GHS 2020 Graduate,

Congratulations on your high school success! Whatever your current

plans are, you have the privilege of being able to vote in this fall’s
elections. We urge you to exercise this right, because in the State of
Iowa, a single vote can make a real difference in whether a candidate wins
or loses. You deserve to be represented by people who understand
your concerns, and this will only occur if you participate in the political
process.

As members of the Poweshiek County Democrats—your neighbors, co-

workers, and friends—we believe that our candidates are especially
responsive to the voices of young Iowans like yourself. These are difficult
times, particularly for people who are just beginning a career or pursuing a
degree. But, as Democrats, we know that we can overcome all problems if
we face them with honesty, integrity, and respect for everyone’s
individual contribution. We are the party that recognizes we all have the ability to make our country—
and the world—a better place, regardless of our different backgrounds and experiences. We are the party
that has specific plans to reduce student loans, improve the environment, create more jobs in the
Midwest, and make sure that everybody has the opportunity to live the life they want.

It’s more than just the Presidential election: we have important choices to make for the U.S. House of
Representatives, the U.S. Senate, the Iowa House, the Iowa Senate, and the Poweshiek County Board of
Supervisors. We want you to vote in all of these races, because your life will be directly affected by the
people who win them. Here’s our list of candidates and their websites:

• Tom Kriegel, Poweshiek County Sheriff

• Diana Dawley, Poweshiek County Supervisor

• Ivy Schuster, Iowa Senate: ivyforiowa.com

Since you are already registered to vote, you simply need to show up at your polling place on Election
Day—Tuesday, November 3rd from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.—with your driver’s license or i.d. To find where
your polling place is, go here: https://sos.iowa.gov/elections/voterreg/pollingplace/search.aspx. You can
also request an absentee ballot if you do not wish to vote in person on Election Day. To get an absentee
ballot, go here: https://sos.iowa.gov/elections/electioninfo/absenteeinfo.html.

Your voice counts. Make sure that it is heard by voting for the candidates you prefer. And don’t let
anyone dissuade you from going to the polls or casting an absentee ballot. Because you get to determine
the kind of future you want—if you vote.

Respectfully yours,
The Poweshiek County Democrats
