What comes out of your mouth and what you convey by your body language and facial
expressions can often be two entirely different things, whether you are aware of it or not. Body
language and facial expressions are non-verbal gestures which are used to convey meaning
without the use of spoken words, helping to build deeper relations to better communicate with
others.

In a multicultural setting as in the video clip of APEC summit the difficulty of

communication is increased because there are different cultures in this setting, cultural
differences makes it harder to interact and certain acts are often misunderstood because of
different cultural expressions and attitudes. Communicating effectively in a multicultural
environment involves mutual respect, sensitivity and acceptance, as each culture is different.
Cultural misunderstandings may arise when people do not share or understand the norms of a
specific culture, how you behave with what others expect you to do in certain situations. The
norms of a new culture can be learned by observing people and asking questions.

In my opinion, in the youtube clip, we should be mindful about how we communicate in

a multicultural setting, because cultural misunderstandings may take place, in the clip high
ranking officials in different countries are present in which, if misunderstanding occur greater
problems may arise between different nations. Sometimes issues arise as to the expression of
their face, showing their real emotions that differ in their actions or other actions that are usually
natural in the other country, but not natural in the other.

Effective communication is what separates a incompetent leader from a remarkable one;

good communication skills is the key to effective leadership.
