About the Race and the Heart

Where’d you go after the storm

That drew a line so impossible

To ever cross without deconstructing

Oneself?

You’ve gone yonder to be whole

Based on an idea of yourself,

Or have you become the idea

That was pressed upon you

By society, and the friends,

And the family — and yourself?

Who are you right now,

And how does it feel to be you?

When will it ever be enough,

All that pacing and racing you do?

And since you’re racing:

Where’s your heart and when

Will you come home?

Correspondence

After so many years of suffering, I’ve discovered the path of the heart. Make no

mistake: My suffering has not ended. It’s merely transformed from an enemy to a very

uncomfortable companion. I used to wish that my suffering would just vanish and go

away forever, but one day I had an epiphany about suffering and the darkness most of

us hold within our souls: Suffering and darkness, they direct our attention toward the

space that we don’t like to
