PRODUCT DATA BULLETIN DATA BULLETIN NUMBER 1100 SOLID-STATE ANNUNCIATORS. AN-100 Translarm designates the basic RIS series of annun. ciators and annunciator systems .. . a series that emerged over fifteen years ago as one of the first completely solid state ines of alarm and monitoring equipment. Since its inception, the AN-100 line has undergone continuous refine: ‘ment to refiect RiS's substantial field experience and to keep pace with new developments in solid-state technology. The Model AN-1100 integral and remote-logie annunciator com: Ponents described in this bulletin are precisely such a Fefinement. They offer a unique combination of field-proven Performance, coupled with what is probably the most ‘dyanced annunciator desigh in the industry. ‘haps the most notable feature ‘of the Model AN-1100 is that the circuits have been reduced to simply a field-termi nation terminal block containing the electronics. There is no hhand wiring required; outputs to the anaunciator lamps ‘come directly from the terminal block assembly. The solid state sequence modules that serve ‘as the annunciator’s, SERIES AN-100 TRANSLARM SOLID-STATE ANNUNCIATORS FOR INTEGRAL AND REMOTE LOGIC SYSTEMS basic intellect incorporate large-scale-integration circuit tech. niques and custom-designed CMOS logic innovations that provide unparalleled reliability — the single most important ingredient of any annunciator system. These advanced elec: tronics are coupled with outstanding industrial design, in. cluding: the elimination of almost all hand wiring ‘and harnessing for increased reliability; modular construction; contemporary styling; and operating features that are not uplicated by any other annunciator system on the market. This bulletin describes the Model AN-1100 Solid-State An- ‘unciator for both integral and remote-mounted logic sys- tems. Data bulletins covering such annunciator system var- jations as operation from direct analog inputs, graphic annuncistor panels, intrinsically-safe annunciator’ systems, ‘and systems interfaced with recorders, computers, and/or other instrumentation, are available from your nearest RiS sales facility or directly from any of the manufacturing facilites listed on the back cover. re SERIES AN-100 ANNUNGIATORS, MODEL AN-1100 [MODULAR DESIGN The Model AN-1100 Annunciator consists of three basic elements: (1) a back-lighted display cabinet (2) a terminal block assembly containing the electronics (3) power supplies. ‘The terminal block assembly contains the solid-state CMOS, logic modules, with gold-plated contacts at one end and integral input terminals at the other end. The modules plug into gold-plated, spring-loaded, bifurcated connectors mounted on a printed-circuit mother board in the electronics chassis to form the complete annunciator logic system, which may be remotely mounted in standard 19-inch (483 mm) racks, in RiS:supplied 24-inch (610 mm) wide cabinets, or integrally with the display unit. The separate isplays for the remote logic may be either panel. or rack- mounted, and cable connected to the electronics chassis. ‘A wide range of display-only or integral-system annunciator ‘configurations are available in the AN-1100, see Page 6, ‘and these will satisfy most small system requirements. In large scale systems standard configurations are repeated ‘on the building block principle to attain the required num: ber of points. Vertical formats of any practical height and horizontal formats of any practical length are formed simply by stacking or side-by-side mounting of multiple configura- tions. Since only one set of repeated dimensions are in: volved in such systems, engineering, panel cutting, and in stallation complexity are held to a minimum, Reduced rack space and installation expense are also in herent in the design of the remote-mounted logic systems of the AN-1100. The plug-in module and mother board configuration of logic system permits electronics chassis to be installed back-to-back, thus reducing space require. ‘ments, for this remote-mounted equipment by a factor of ‘one-half FUNCTIONAL STYLING ‘The physical design of the Series AN-100_ annunciator display is undoubtedly the most unique in the industry, and it is as functional as it is attractive. The display is, borderless with the exception of an outside bezel, thus eliminating the tick-tack-toe appearance usually associated with annunciators. This absence of window borders also greatly reduces panel space requirements without sacriic- ing window area. Based on the standard 2" x 3” (51 mm X76 mm) window, for example, a typical AN-100 configura- tion occupies only about half the panel space of equivalent ‘configurations of other manufacturers, see Figure 1. Windows are molded from white translucent Lexan, and snap in from the front to provide relamping access with: ‘out the need for hinged display cabinet doors. Each window is tapered 7.5° off vertical so the entire display tends to face into the control room. Besides providing an attractive appearance this reduces glare and eliminates the need to tilt the top portion of the control panel. sequace uous Solstate, cutomdesigned, CNOS loge sequence mad se pnp iedin’ othe siLL100" and cae ee ieee ann ttn dese mater, and serie At uy ate unity ackoged on inte ear a ee a me 108 we, lta, Sane pccribelieg tads Create’ ae, Mat~ Fre shes ete ales Cordes rolimint cae | etn aang rate thee mining re on hans a ul Mele cela om et crea ea Mates contact connections wh fon ee rath sete in sng shes, Dit comets te mater bad Inputs to the modules are made via an exclusive RiS-de- signed Integral terminal block, see Figure 2. A special molded handle with four No. 12 screw terminals (accepting either standard ring or spade lugs) forms the termination {or field wiring. This handle, in turn, press fits into a mating terminal handie on the sequence module. In addition to greatly reducing physical wiring by eliminating all the hand wiring from terminal blocks to module tray connectors, the special terminal block combination permits quick discon- nection of field wiring for-maintenance, trouble shooting, or | module changes. ‘The AN-1100's module design provides a high degree of reliability in that only two solid-state elements per annun- ciator point are used: the LSI CMOS logic chip and a lamp-driver circuit. Modules are generelly supplied with dual input circuits, i.e., two identical but electronically independent annunciator points packaged on a single card, thus providing a considerable space savings in the logic | system. The capability of an auxiliary relay output per point is available as an option on single-point modules,-~. Inputs to. the modules may be either normally-open o normally-closed contacts, and mode selection can be made~ (and changed) in the field simply by changing the position of gold-plated plug-in jumpers on the board. If specified, operational sequences may also be changed in the field by adding-oF removing jumpers. These field options impart a high degree of versatility to the AN-1100's operation. @ canes oF evcx nouNTING o1seLAY — sana ATTRACTIVE DISPLAY — borderless, back-lighted windows snap in from the front and are molded from White “unbreakable Lexan (other colors on special order).
