This reading made by Karen Armstrong expounded on how violence is very
adamant in the contexts of religion, many religions have been using it beliefs and it’s ideologies to campaign for war and to initiate conflict towards other religious organizations or just basically by race for not having or sharing the same belief, it is considered a threat if you have different perspectives and are willing to risk ones life for it. In one of the lessons discussed in class is collateral damage, the casualties caused by the violence across different places in different periods of time has been insanely violent, such as the war in Iraq which has proven that God is definitely not dead as mentioned in the reading whether he is or not. However, it is making people die. Just like what Samuel Huntington saw, “clash of civilizations” where in the democracy has perished in the light of muslims since they were seen as terror attackers by the whole world. So the questions that always go through my head as we speak of religion and world peace, is it ever going to end? Is religion making the world a better place? Why are we fighting over beliefs? – There’s so many questions that need answers and we can only formulate or make up conspiracies that would satisfy our belief of what is happening and what could happen.
