Choosing an Organization

In this case study we will take a closer look at a situation that happened in March 2020

while I was working at United Wholesale Mortgage Company. United Wholesale Mortgage

Company is a wholesale mortgage broker located in the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan. Known for

its elite client service, world class training program, and team-centered culture, United

Wholesale Mortgage Company is highly regarded as one of the best employers around.

My Role

At United Wholesale Mortgage Company, training is an integral part of the company

culture with a focus on production and non-production-based training. I have the honor of being

a part of the Leadership Development Training Team. On the Leadership Development Team

(LDT) I fulfill the roll of Leadership Development Specialist. In order to better understand my

role, it’s important that you understand the function of the team as a whole. The LDT is

responsible for providing training for all levels of team members from those aspiring to learn

more about leadership, to team leader level, all the way up to C-suite leadership. As the

Leadership Development Specialist, I dive into more specialized projects including curriculum

building, data analysis, training logistics, collaboration and development, and decision making.

Situation Described

In March of 2020, like many other companies in America, Dreams Together Mortgage

Company made the decision to move 97% of all team members to remote work environments

due to the COVID-19 pandemic sweeping the nation. As a training team, we were faced with

many difficult decisions. Do we continue training? How do we train our team members and

leaders who rely on us? What technology and training platforms do we invest our time and
3

money in to make remote learning possible? With all of these questions, and many more,

circulating, team dynamics were tested and the abilities of the LDT members were put to the test.

Conclusion

The past six plus months have been rough to say the least. Mistakes were made, lessons

were learned, and we are all better because of it. This situation will allow us to take a closer look

at the different frames used in an organization.
