INTRODUCTION

Nowadays, there are a lot of devices that can connected to the internet but most of
them are PCs, laptops, tablets, TVs and smartphones. In the future, there will be more
autonomous devices or things that will have features to allow the connection of internet. We
live in the era where Information and Communication Technology (ICT) are mostly used in
almost all developed countries because ICT are good in improving and fixing the quality of
medicine, education and security in differences area. By combining the Internet of Things
(IoT) and ICT, IoT actually helps ICT to extend provided services where it give things
flexibility and reachability from anywhere to anyone worldwide. The four pillars of IoT are
things, people, process and data. IoT solutions will positively impact for campus ecosystem,
without IoT in campus or university there are some issues that will be faced.

A smart campus allows a better coexistence between the university population and its
surroundings, adequately manages the resources within the campus, and provides favorable
places for learning. Smart campus network’s purpose is to create or design a campus network
by integrate IoT devices with networking devices, to facilitate and control different activities
in campus network such as outdoor lighting, building power systems, security surveillance
and physical access systems, parking facilities, and more. The design includes Hierarchical
Network Design which the uses is to cluster devices into multiple networks layers. The
networks are structured in a layered approach and each layer have their on funtionalities. The
topology of the smart campus network is design by using version 7.3 Cisco Packet Tracer
simulation software.
SOCIETAL IMPACT

Health -Fostering healthier constituents within the campus. With the use of wearables, schools and
communities can promote a healthier lifestyle. While these wearables inform constituents of
their health patterns, this information could also be used by campuses to address student
health issues, which could impact retention as well as promote a healthier community and
potentially could reduce the impacts to health and human services
Safety -The fabric of connectivity enables campuses to cultivate a sense of safety. A smart campus
can use advancements like facial recognition, reporting and alert systems, gunshot sensors,
location intelligence, and mining patterns to help ensure constituents are safe.
Legal - The legal/regulatory domain acts as a big barrier that slows down the development of the
smart campus, with concerns mainly from the following areas.
- Since there is no much legal framework regarding the smart technology/invention,
therefore the current law and policy amendments needed to be improve in the future.
- The self-regulator such as the Board of Engineer should play an active role in formulating
policy and regulation because the Board of Engineer has a significant power entrusted by the
law.

Culture - Smart campus cultivate a digitally connected experience where a well-designed

infrastructure and data strategy provide meaningful information that allows for responsive
intervention between students, faculty, staff, and alumni.
- As young generations, the student usually grasp technologies much faster than the
instructors, while the instructors, especially those more sophisticated in face-to-face
teaching, will have a hard time adapting their daily work to the new learning environment
which created the sociocultural between the students and the intructors.
