relations. All art must be voluntary, free, and ethically sourced.
6. COVID-19 and ensuing crisis of perception offers a reset button for
artists to destitute the cultural industries and begin growing a space for
ethical art practice.
7. Ideally one’s direct action (to end poverty and save the planet) and
one’s art practice are heterogenous phenomena. Art practice does not
replace—and therefore needn’t resemble—direct action.
8. One’s ethical art practice may even contradict the vibe of one’s direct
action. This is contradiction can be celebrated. Only unethical networked
and industrial art production/consumption contradicts or counteracts
direct action.
9. The point of ending poverty and saving planet earth is to bring about the
dictatorship of art. The dictatorship of art means true peace and true
freedom on earth between all people.

American Theater institutions are like sad zoos where playwrights are
“conserved” in captivity: cramped quarters, lost instincts, indifferent crowds.
The more “famous” within the theater micro-ecology a playwright is the
more neutered, tame, and silent they become.
Our playwrights are nothing but careerists, gossiping about realty tv,
spamming one another’s humble brags, addressing the world with zero
urgency, comfortably locked in gilded obscurity, hoping someone will pay
them to adapt a NYT bestseller into a Netflix series

Wallace Shawn was our great American playwright for a time. Does
voiceovers for Disney and Amazon now. Not quite as heartbreaking as
Sam Shepard cooped into Black Hawk Down, but still bad. The Fever and
The Designated Mourner are more important American plays than anything
Arthur Miller wrote. Neither would have been produced had Shawn not
been New York royal family, which gave him the freedom and means to
mount these beautiful works of class treason. Like Ted Kaczynski, Shawn
believed the bourgeoisie liberal was the true hand maiden to techno-
fascism. Unlike Kaczynski, Shawn committed himself to self-indictment,
hiding no redemption for himself or his kind anywhere in the work.

Artistic directors and their desk workers are the privileged class.
Dramaturges are cops hired to discipline writers and harmonize their aims
with those of the institution. This isn’t hard.
They shouldn’t be compensated or hired full stop. Abolish dramaturges.
Abolish lit managers. Pay designers more. Pay playwrights more. Pay the
ARTISTS, not the administrators and their make-work drones.

theater jobs that didn’t exist 100 years ago. If you’re such a “drama nerd”
why don’t you MAKE something instead of becoming another

These two are actually inching toward the realization that dramaturg is a
fake job. “Dramaturge” is the playwright’s “vanishing twin”, resurrected as
a golem to haunt the institutions
These spiritual blue checks want more managers, more desks, more

they specialize in nothing, except blandness. The “classic” is blurry, the
new play is bloodless, the “diversity slot” a cruel joke
They aim to do it “all” and thus attract an audience with no passion for
anything in particular—a zombified audience animated by vague,
detachable nostalgia. “Inclusion” in the theatre industrial complex is
vampiric terror, draining blood from the living to feed a smiling corpse.
They are obsessed with narrativizing their sameness as rich variety. They
want diversity but to imprison, perfect, hoard. White American Theater is
the mallification of theater while also being the miniaturization of theater.
They give you miniature malls instead of sacred rites.
