1.

Choose on one direct action you can perform, repeat, and proselytize
about with full energy and faith.
2. Make or have enough money to commit yourself to this direct action. It
doesn’t matter where your money comes from as long it as sustains direct
action.
3. Cease all public art-making and participation in any cultural industry. As
long as there is poverty there can be no ethical art practice. All public art
and cultural industry under capitalism is immoral.
4. Only independent artists with organic audiences are good and real.
Networked and industrial art production and consumption are bad and
fake. No more industrial art can or should be made until humanity rescues
itself from poverty and rescues the earth from destruction.
5. Artists must desert the cultural industries and make art for organic, local
people. Artists must desert technology and cease all exploitative work
relations. All art must be voluntary, free, and ethically sourced.
6. COVID-19 and ensuing crisis of perception offers a reset button for
artists to destitute the cultural industries and begin growing a space for
ethical art practice.
7. Ideally one’s direct action (to end poverty and save the planet) and
one’s art practice are heterogenous phenomena. Art practice does not
replace—and therefore needn’t resemble—direct action.
8. One’s ethical art practice may even contradict the vibe of one’s direct
action. This is contradiction can be celebrated. Only unethical networked
and industrial art production/consumption contradicts or counteracts
direct action.
9. The point of ending poverty and saving planet earth is to bring about the
dictatorship of art. The dictatorship of art means true peace and true
freedom on earth between all people.

USA lockdown mirrors USA culture: two opposing factions of charmless

demagoguery at war

American Theater institutions are like sad zoos where playwrights are
“conserved” in captivity: cramped quarters, lost instincts, indifferent crowds.
The more “famous” within the theater micro-ecology a playwright is the
more neutered, tame, and silent they become.
Our playwrights are nothing but careerists, gossiping about realty tv,
spamming one another’s humble brags, addressing the world with zero
urgency, comfortably locked in gilded obscurity, hoping someone will pay
them to adapt a NYT bestseller into a Netflix series

In attempting to own “SJWs” in his play Oleanna, Mamet behaved as the

ultimate “SJW”: embodying a mystified attachment to identity, a throbbing
persecution complex, a straw man conception of the ideological other.
People talk about his sexism, his childish “conservative” views, but
Mamet’s greatest aesthetic crime is being a fake Vermonter

Why haven’t Mac Wellman’s disciples been able to reform the Theatre of
Good Intentions?

Wallace Shawn was our great American playwright for a time. Does
voiceovers for Disney and Amazon now. Not quite as heartbreaking as
Sam Shepard cooped into Black Hawk Down, but still bad. The Fever and
The Designated Mourner are more important American plays than anything
Arthur Miller wrote. Neither would have been produced had Shawn not
been New York royal family, which gave him the freedom and means to
mount these beautiful works of class treason. Like Ted Kaczynski, Shawn
believed the bourgeoisie liberal was the true hand maiden to techno-
fascism. Unlike Kaczynski, Shawn committed himself to self-indictment,
hiding no redemption for himself or his kind anywhere in the work.

There is no American Elfriede Jelinek

"I don't like things to be plain, comprehensible. I don't think that's realistic.
That's not how anything works. You should be presented with statements,
utterances and art that challenge you in terms of making an
interpretation."

1) Richard Pryor live comedy was probably peak "american theater" in the
sense of performance form reaching full maturity, self-awareness, power
artistically. The american "theatre of good intentions" is the other bastard
tradition, ruled by acting gurus and wack playwrights

2) Then you have the "downtown NYC" avant american theater "tradition"
which is sort of frozen Wooster Group milieu aesthetic based on rent
control and wireless microphones, long ago rendered void by the New
York Times, which approved them all into gilded irrelevance

3) Then you have the various hippie off-the-grid type movements....Bread

and Puppet, warehouse hippie, ethical community theater stuff. Admirable
for their rejection of credentialism but held back aesthetically by their
commitment to democracy

I am Royal Playwright of Atlantian Cataclysm

“HOW DO YOU MEMORIZE ALL THOSE LINES?” IS THE DEEPEST,

TRUEST, MOST VISCERAL AND FUNDAMENTAL REACTION A HUMAN
HAS EVER HAD OR COULD EVER HAVE TO WHAT WE CALL THEATER.
THE VAIN REJECTION OF THIS BASIC ALCHEMICAL TRANSACTION IS
WHY THEATER IS DYING

A performance rehearsed for only 3 weeks is not worth seeing

HARK! theater is a calling for oracles & priestesses not a "career" for
extroverted libs; theater is an journey for outcasts & initiants not the
managerial classes or the tourists; theaters are the new churches of peace
& ecology not totems to precarious labor & central air

Alongside every bodega there is a blackbox theater where micro-farmers

can view pseudodoxological puppets shows and unlearn the ideologies of
the past; congregations are displaced from churches to make room for
opera, acrobats, escape artists; there are no dramaturges, no prizes

Goodbye dramaturges! Goodbye lit managers! Goodbye usurpers!

Goodbye credentialists! Goodbye gatekeepers! Goodbye parasites!

Observe how the managerial classes, who oversee the permanent

precarity of actors, writers, and designers feel absolutely entitled to their
full-time salaries & expect us to weep for them in solidarity

You are an administrator. Please understand that no one has ever

*wanted* to “work with” you. You are a bureaucratic irritation.

Artistic directors and their desk workers are the privileged class.
Dramaturges are cops hired to discipline writers and harmonize their aims
with those of the institution. This isn’t hard.
They shouldn’t be compensated or hired full stop. Abolish dramaturges.
Abolish lit managers. Pay designers more. Pay playwrights more. Pay the
ARTISTS, not the administrators and their make-work drones.

These replies betray a troubling cognitive dissonance. I call for the

elimination of make-work jobs and bureaucratic sprawl and they counter
with “you don’t get it: I’m underpaid, powerless, and serve no real
purpose!” Not a compelling argument for why these jobs should exist.

Here come the gatekeepers in training! This guy is ONLY interested in the
theater jobs that didn’t exist 100 years ago. If you’re such a “drama nerd”
why don’t you MAKE something instead of becoming another
credentialized ART COP

What’s a dramaturg? Sorry can’t keep up with all the latest trends

These two are actually inching toward the realization that dramaturg is a
fake job. “Dramaturge” is the playwright’s “vanishing twin”, resurrected as
a golem to haunt the institutions

I am everything you are not: performer, playwright, oracle. I am ancient

and powerful. You, by your own admission, are a suspension feeder,
swamping the ecosystem with your detritivorous mediocrity. Don’t be
proud of how inessential you are!

These spiritual blue checks want more managers, more desks, more
hoops 2 jump through, larger buildings, bigger budgets, more MFAs, more
courtesy, more respectibility, more opportunity. These things will not save
them from extinction. The nemesis is rising. The cataclysm is here.

Artists no longer catalyze psychic upheaval on behalf of humanity, instead

they cauterize wounds inflicted by the vampire, prolonging Babylon. Artists
should be raising Atlantis in the hearts of the faithful, instead they answer
emails and post cringe.

Lincoln Center should be expropriated & turned over to native coyotes, red
foxes, and white-tailed deer. Dramaturges can supervise the rewilding,
holding talkbacks with pigeons and rats. Anonymous playwright-criers,
veiled in vines torture language until it bleeds acid truth

Our cadre is growing...a shadow movement of alchemists, royalists,

vandals, seers. Our vibrational samizdat ripples through the theatron. The

White American Theater (AKA Regional AKA Geezer Theatre) is the worst
of all worlds. Like a restaurant that serves cuisine “from all over the globe”
they specialize in nothing, except blandness. The “classic” is blurry, the
new play is bloodless, the “diversity slot” a cruel joke

They aim to do it “all” and thus attract an audience with no passion for
anything in particular—a zombified audience animated by vague,
detachable nostalgia. “Inclusion” in the theatre industrial complex is
vampiric terror, draining blood from the living to feed a smiling corpse.

They are obsessed with narrativizing their sameness as rich variety. They
want diversity but to imprison, perfect, hoard. White American Theater is
the mallification of theater while also being the miniaturization of theater.
They give you miniature malls instead of sacred rites.

A week since #WeSeeYouwat and the discourse is spoiling. “We need

POC critics!” “We need POC Boards of Directors!” LOL NO! This is the
same “inclusion” narrative that got us here. It’s not about more POC in the

Eliminate producers, marketing officers, dramaturges, casting assistants,

Artistic directorships should belong to the largest donor, who serves as

monarch, gratis

In the US the arts have already been defunded. We are sustained by

“foundation support”. These foundations pressure artists & arts orgs to
become like them: sprawling, neo-liberal bureaucracies optimized
according to crypto-capitalist values.

A benevolent monarch is preferable.

American theater companies should be in homeless encampments or

“distanced togetherness” should be in scare quotes because it is neither

distanced nor togetherness

There can be no quarantine under capitalism. Nearly all our leaders
oppose policies that would make a meaningful quarantine possible.

Wilma gave them an opening, released a COVID-GLOBE design for clout.

Accessibility crisis is here.

But is this about accountability or disaster prep? A community “calling in”

or a wake of vultures?

Pit in my stomach senses both sides are actually just posting COVID-
themed content for clout. That none of this will ever intersect with a world
that is real. That both sides are pretending to possess agency, both
posting speculative fan fiction about a future that isn’t coming.

When I try to imagine the revolutionary accessibility hinted at by the

activists in Wilma’s insta comments I fail utterly and instead experience
flashbacks to when I watched “Wall-E” on an airplane on pills.

I’ve always shown my back to the institutions, but never intentionally. I

comedians must post front-facing camera vids, poets must do OnlyFans,
polemicists must do podcasts. This is nonnegotiable. Give up control.

Artists are living through a great rewilding, a rapid decentralization of art

culture. Being “cancelled” is a blessing if it speeds you into this new
paradigm: a world without fame, without crowds, without bundled
influence or institutional consensus; a rhizomatic paradise.

White people are indigenous people, but with even fewer links to our
ancestors, people bribed by advantage to cut all ties with our past, people
so thoroughly erased that we are simultaneously everywhere and nowhere.
We are a drone army, reproduced to resemble our own murderer.

This is why we are drawn to things like dream catchers, rap music, yoga,
kilts, and crystals...a desperate, amnesiatic grasping at any link to life
before the borg absorbed us

White people develop melancholic relationships with things like "Dances

Privileged Whites are shielded from the worst suffering white supremacy
begets, but do suffer from irretrievable loss, unresolvable guilt, & full blown
cultural amnesia.

We both forget & remember our crimes.

The suffering isn’t remotely equivalent, but IS inextricably linked.

If cultural appropriation and spiritual escapism (yoga, crystals, hip hop,

“one love”, “white power” etc) are not options for white people seeking
lost essence then they should build a new white culture of openness,
humility, reparation, and sacrifice.

“crisis actor” is the role we are all being groomed to play on the reality
“show” that is our lives. America is one big deadly improv exercise.

The magick of the adept hides in plain sight. It will look like nothing if you

Secret knowledge is protected as much by exposure as by concealment.

MEMORIZATION IS THE CONTENT *AND* THE FORM OF THEATER. IT IS

THE VERY LIFEFORCE OF THE ARTFORM. DON'T MISTAKE IDEAS OR

I have seized the affordance of this anonymous timeline

People know Bruce Willis had lines fed to him via an earpiece doing
"Misery" on Broadway. What most don't know is that they once tried to
sub Willis' usual line reader with an ASM...and got a flat/neutral Willis. See,
he was also being fed his *performance* via earpiece

Democracy may or may not be a good way of organizing society. I can't

say.

I know that democracy is not a good way to make art.

Art made according to democratic paradigms or principles is not good for

anyone.

The same values don't apply across all realms.

The "bookshelf" tweet is melancholic. It appears to yearn for meaningful

relationships with books & people but instead unveals a triple loss: the
books are shelved (relics of a past), their meanings are fixed (look no
deeper), their value is instrumentalized (for mate selection).

I think artists should be skeptical, chaotic, obsessed, and

unaccountable---not optimistic, coherent, cool, or polite.
