Dear Mr. Semakula,
EWUAP in collaboration with the Applied Training Project (ATP) of the Nile Basin
Initiative (NBI) is organizing a two wecks training program on Remote Sensing (RS) and
Geographic Information System (GIS) for selected stakeholders of the EWUAP project. In
line with this, we were electronically advised by the National Project Coordinator of
EWUAP in Uganda of you nomination along with two other colleagues for the two weeks
taining program. The training program is designed to upgrade skill and build necessary
capacity at national level so that experts and professionals could apply the satellite based
technology and download data and update findings of previous work on the identification of
Large Scale Irsigation (LSI) schemes and best practices, and further use this technology to
support irrigation and agriculture development efforts in the country.
As might have already been communicated to you by the National Project Coordinator, this
is an intensive training on the use and application of RS GIS technologies and will be
conducted in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from 1-12 December 2008, The training program will
be conducted by Dr. Wim Bastiaanssen, an international consultant working on best
Practices and guidelines of LSI schemes at national and basin levels, and his colleagues who
have wide experiences and knowledge of using the technology world wide including in
Africa. This we hope will provide good opportunity tolink up with on-going efforts and
findings on the LSI schemes af Hational/and basin levels. The training ptogram will enable

national development activities: x
