    Veronica Roth drew inspiration for Divergent from several sources. She was inspired by action movies to include dramatic scenes, by her interest in social groups to create the book's factions of Abnegation, Amity, Candor, Dauntless and Erudite. While driving, a song inspired her to begin writing Divergent, which she worked on in college. Most significantly, Lois Lowry's book "The Giver" inspired Roth with its somewhat disturbing themes, prompting her to include some disturbing content as well.

    Fact 1: She watched so much action movies which inspired her into making the good
    parts.
