Subjects and Methods

Study type
Cross sectional descriptive study.

Target population
Patients with MS refer for echocardiography in Suez Canal University (SCU)

hospital cardiology department.

Sample Size
The study will recruit about 54 patients according to following equation (16) :

Total sample size = N = [(Zα+Zβ)/C]2 + 3

Where

a) n = sample size,

b) The standard normal deviate for α = Zα = 1.960.

c) The standard normal deviate for β = Zβ = 0.842.

d) Expected correlation coefficient= 0.408 (17).

Inclusion criteria

 Age ≥ 18 years.

 Patient with mitral stenosis defined area <2.5cm .
  Preserved LV systolic function

Exclusion criteria

 LV systolic dysfunction, ejection fraction <50%

 Ischemic heart disease

 Aortic valve diseases more than moderate degree (aortic stenosis or aortic

regurgitation ).

 Prosthetic aortic valve.

Methodology

All patient will be subjected to the following:

1. An interview using a predesigned anonymous questionnaire (appendix 1).
