1. What is remote access?


The purpose of the remote access is to offer Bane NOR's employees and other external users the
opportunity to reach Bane NOR's internal ICT services from places where Bane NOR's administrative
network does not exist. Access is secure and login requires a so-called two-factor authentication
with username, password and approval or code from app / SMS via Microsoft Authenticator.

2. Quick guide
Quick guide without pictures for those who have used a similar solution before.

Are you stuck? Read the user guide further to find screenshots and tips and tricks.

1. Open http://start.banenor.no in a web browser


a. On Bane NOR's PCs use Internet Explorer
2. Enter your username and password and press Log On
a. The same as you use to log on to your Bane NOR PC,
firstname.surname@banenor.no
3. You will then need to confirm your login via Microsoft Authenticator. Either via the app or
enter a code received on SMS
4. On the Citrix StoreFront web site you will see the applications you have access to
a. If you do not see everything you have access to, press the Apps button at the top of
the page
5. Start applications by pressing the desired icon. Applications will appear on the local taskbar
and can be recognized from the remote text that appears when you hover the mouse
pointer over the taskbar icon
6. To log off, quit all applications, tap your name in the browser window where you have Citrix
StoreFront open and select Log Off

4. How to user guide
4.1. Logon
Step 1: Go to
https://start.banenor.no in an
web browser.

On a Bane NOR device: Use


Internet Explorer, you can also
find a short cut to
“Fjerntilgang” on the desktop
or start menu.

Step 2: You then need to input


your user name and password.
The user name is
firstname.surname@banenor.
no and is the same as for
Windows and Office.

Push the
Log On – button.

Step 3a: If you have choosen


to use the Authenticator app,
you will now be notified in the
app on your phone.

You have 60 seconds to


approve the logon.

If you do not approve within


the limit, you will get a
message on the logon page
that the username or the
password is wrong.

Step 3b: If you have choosen


to receive an SMS instead of
using the Authenticator app.
You will now get the two-
factor code in a SMS.

The message will look like this:

Type in the code and press


Submit

4.2. Favorites and all applications
Step 1: On the landing
page you will see a
selection of applications
under FAVORITES

If you do not see the


application you want to
start, press the APPS
button at the top of the
page to see all the
applications you have
access to.
You can also use the
search box at the top
right to find applications.

If you are in FAVORITES,


search among attached
favorites, and if you are
in APPS, search for all
the applications you
have access to.

NOTE: DESKTOP is
removed in the new
solution per. 01.01.2019
and will not be available
anymore.

Step 2: Press the icon of


the application you want
to launch.

We use Agresso
SelfService as an
example here. Pressing
the icon will change to a
gray circle while the
application starts up.

Agresso SelfService will


start and open on your
desktop. By first placing
the mouse pointer over
the application on the
taskbar, then moving it
over the preview window

that has come up, a
status field will be
displayed.

\\Remote behind the


application name, means
that the application runs
via remote access.

Step 3: If you want to


attach multiple programs
to FAVORITES, do so by
first pressing APPS (1),
then finding the desired
application, pressing
Details (2) and then Add
To Favorites (3).
Finally, press the arrow
(4) to get back to the
overview of all
applications.

If you want to remove an


application from
favorites, tap Details
then tap Remove.

You can sort icons under


FAVORITES as you wish
by dragging icons around
with the mouse.

Step 4: The first time you
open applications via
Citrix you will get
different type of warning
/ question boxes
depending on whether
the application uses
audio or video image, for
example.

Press Permit use to use


these features.

4.3. File Explorer “Utforsker”


Through File Explorer, you can get
hold of your files located on internal
file shares.

Step 1: When you first start File


Explorer via remote access, you will
be asked if you want to access your
local files in File Explorer.

If you connect from a Bane NOR-PC or


a private PC, you can give access to
local files without much risk. If you
connect from a public computer, you
should not give access as you can
forget about documents that are
copied to the local disk.

Allow reading only - No changes
allowed.
Permit all access - full access to local
files.

Step 2: Select Do not ask me again for


this site. if you want to remember this
option, then select the desired access
level. If you log in from another PC
you will be asked again.

Step 3: If you accessed local files in


the previous step, you will find your
Local Disk in File Explorer. You will
also find other disk areas, such as
Multimedia (M :), your OneDrive area
(O :) and Common area (R :).

Images, Documents and other quick


folders point to your O area.

If you have had self-defined Favorites


in File Explorer locally on your Bane
NOR PC, these favorites will not
appear on Citrix.

Important!
"Documents" will be the same
between your PC and Citrix, but
unless the PC has been set up with
OneDrive access, they will not point to
the same file area.

In the picture, File Explorer on top


shows how it will look on Citrix, and
the picture on the bottom shows how
it looks like on your Bane NOR PC.
Both showing OneDrive.

4.4. Simultaneous use of locally installed applications
You can use locally installed
applications from your device,
be they private or work, along
with Citrix applications. The
biggest difference is that on the
locally installed applications
you will not be able to access
internal file shares unless you
are working on a Bane NOR PC.

You will recognize applications


you have started from Citrix by
saying \\Remote behind the
name.

Both locally installed and


applications started via Citrix
will appear on the same
taskbar on a PC.

If you use the shortcuts


attached to the taskbar, you
will start up locally installed
applications instead of Citrix
applications. Use the Citrix
StoreFront browser window to
launch Citrix applications.

4.5. Logg off


Step 1: Save all unsaved work
and close all the opened
applications the same way as
local applications.

Step 2: Log off Citrix


StoreFront by pressing your
name in the upper right corner
and then pressing Log Off.

Log off or shut down your PC


as usual.

5. Use of remote access on private or non-Bane NOR devices
To use remote access from private or non-Bane NOR devices, Citrix Workspace must be installed.
You have to do this by yourself, Bane NOR helpdesk cannot assist you with installation on private
or non-Bane NOR devices.

You will be notified in the


browser window if you do not
have Citrix Workspace installed.

Press the Install button and


follow the instructions.

The text and installation


method will vary depending on
the type of device and
operating system you are using.

6. Known problem situations and solutions
6.1. Items out of focus on the screen
If you use a device with high screen resolution, it may be that buttons and other items in various
applications will appear unclear. This has to do with scaling of items. Optimal resolution is
1920x1080 with 100% scaling.

6.2. Message from "External Protocol Request"


If you are connecting from a Bane NOR PC and get the message about "External Protocol Request".
This happens in the Chrome browser. It is recommended to use Internet Explorer from Bane NOR
PCs to connect to Citrix remote access, but in Chrome you can check "Remember this option ..." and
press the Start Program to move on.

6.3. Try this before calling helpdesk


If you experience problems, try the following before calling helpdesk. Helpdesk may also ask you to
do this, as they cannot remotely control your PC when you are outside Bane NOR's network.

Manually logging off all applications and sessions:

Step 1:
Press the small arrow next to
the clock and right-click on
the Citrix Workspace icon.

Step 2: Choose Connection


Center.

Step 3: In Citrix Connection
Center you will see all your
opened applications. Press
Log Off to close all
applications and log you out
from Citrix remote access.
Unsaved work will not be
saved.

Note! Any content that was


not saved at this time is lost!

You can then close the


Connection Center window
by pressing Close.

login instructions previous in
this how to.
