Course Attendance Policy:

Class attendance is a very important part of the course. A student not attending class
due to school activity, i.e. athletic events, student council, et cetera, and other reasons,
i.e. deployments, illness, emergencies, business or personal travel, etc., is responsible
for class work and assignments missed just as though he/she attended. Like in the
outside world, no employer would want an employee that exhibits those characteristics.
Points may be deducted up to 40 points for past due assignments.

Attendance in this course will be checked each week. For recordkeeping purposes,
attendance will be based on timely submission or posting of required
assignments each week. All assignments and tests will be posted in the online
class. No assignment will be accepted through e-mails.

Students who submit assignments on time will be considered present for the week.
Students who submit late assignments will be considered absent for the week that the
assignment was due. The “last day attended” will be the date that the last assignment
was submitted.

Class Participation:

Positive class participation and interaction are strongly encouraged. Such involvement,
along with attendance will be considered in awarding the final grade when a student’s
total points fall marginally or very near the next higher grade.

ADA Statement/Special Accommodations:

Any student requiring special accommodation is responsible for notifying the instructor
and the Special Needs Coordinator (located at Student Services) at the beginning of the
semester so that adequate and timely accommodation can be made. Educational
opportunity shall be provided for all.

Assessments:

All assessments will be posted online in the classroom environment. Assessment

categories are as follows:

1. Tests (Mid-Term and Final)

2. Essays / Papers
3. Discussion Questions & Participation in Discussion Forums
4. Mid-Term Reflection

Grading Assignments & Posting Grades

Assignments will be graded and posted in the gradebook section within 7-10 days after
the assignment’s deadline. Up to 40 points may be deducted for late discussion
forums and papers. Late assignments may take an additional 7 days to grade and
post.

Academic Honor Code:

Each student is expected to perform his/her own work, to give credit when ideas are
from other sources, (including students’ own previous work), and to accomplish all
assigned homework and examinations without outside assistance unless otherwise
instructed. Purposely or mistakenly using someone’s work without proper citation and
credit is still cheating and plagiarism. Minimum sanction for any such violation is an “F”
in the specific project. Other penalties may include reporting such incident to school
authorities, and/or a failing grade in the course. At Darton College, high academic
standards are expected.

General Information:

It is the student’s responsibility to immediately inform the instructor or his/her academic

counselor about any problems influencing course completion such as attendance,
lateness, medical problems, difficulty understanding course content, vision problems,
job conflicts, travel, etc.

I want you to be successful in this course! When you have questions about course
content and need assistance, contact me by the message feature in the class, or email,
or phone during my posted office hours.
