Hello everyone and good morning. First of all, let us give thanks to Allah SWT for all the
abundance of grace and guidance so that we can gather in this place in a healthy condition
without lacking anything. Do not forget to also give prayers and greetings to our lord the
Great Prophet Muhammad SAW who has guided us from a dark age to a light age like today.
In this opportunity, I will deliver a speech entitled "Election hoaxes are better than COVID-
19 hoaxes.

In this digital era currently, spreading of information is growing and its development is
becoming more and more inevitable. It's not like before where we could listen to information
from newspapers, radio, TV, or other people's chat. The existence of telecommunication
devices such as handphone has also provoked the emergence of various types of social media.
And on social media, the news is spread freely without any restrictions in accessing it. With
social media, we can get or deliver news anytime and anywhere. But now social media is
being misused as a tool of spreading hoaxes / fake news.
Hoax itself is an attempt to deceive or trick readers/listeners into believing something, even
though the fake news maker knows that the news is fake.

Ladies and gentleman.

Maybe now there are lots of hoax information about COVID-19 pandemic spreading on
social media, but in my opinion the number of hoax content during the election is not inferior.
Why? because based on the records of the Ministry of Communication and Information
Technology that during the 2019 election there were 1,645 hoax content circulating on social
media, different from before the election where there were only 94 hoax content per month.
Meanwhile, during the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of hoax news according to the
Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, there were 1,729 hoax content
spread. And the most hoax news circulating on Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp groups and
Twitter.

Ladies and gentleman

Before we share an information to other people, we must be sure that information is true or
credible . Don't let us be the ones who spread hoax news. Sharing information is very good
and very important for all of us, but what's the point if the information is a hoax. Therefore,
we must be wise in responding and sharing information. So if you use a smartphone, be a
smart person

That's all I can say, I hope my speech can be useful for myself in particular and for all of us
