What if Gollum had not fought Frodo for the One Ring?

1. Why would this cause have changed the effect?


Frodo might not have chosen to destroy the One Ring. He might have kept it. He was already about to do so before he and Gollum fought. Then
Sauron would not have been destroyed. As long as The One Ring existed, then so did Sauron.

2. What might a new effect have been (use your imagination)?


Since Frodo was in Mordor, Sauron’s forces might have found him and taken the Ring from him, ensuring Sauron would win and probably rule all of Middle
Earth.
