QUESTION 1 [25 MARKS]

In a gas turbine combustor, gas propane is burned with 100 percent excess dry air. An analysis of
the exhaust gases reveals that all the hydrogen in the fuel burns to H 2O but only 90 percent of the
carbon burns to CO2, with the remaining 10 percent forming CO. Determine:
(a) The balanced combustion equation. [6 Marks]
(b) The Air-Fuel ratio. [4 Marks]
(c) The heat transfer of fuel burned (in kJ/kg). The dry air and fuel enter the combustion
chamber at 25oC and 1 atm pressure and the products leave the combustion chamber at 1000
K.
[10 Marks]
(d) The dew point temperature for H2O in the products at a total pressure of 1 atm. [5
Marks]
