Recent statistics show an uptrend in crime rates.

This essay will firstly address two of the main

causes for the mentioned trend, being poverty and few opportunities to develop, and then
education will be studied as a possible path to reduce criminal activity.

Most people that turn to a life of crime do so as a mean to survive and provide for their families.
Criminals usually come from a house with a low quality of life where sometimes they would not
know if they were going to be able to eat on any specific day. This kind of situation might cloud the
judgement of many people and could lead them to crime as a last resort. For example in Brazil,
several crime organizations were born in the neighbourhoods with the lowest resources called the
Favelas.

On the other hand, those that would try their best to escape a life of crime will find few job or
educational opportunities. Going to college is expensive almost in every country around the globe
and there are not enough jobs available for so many unskilled people. All of this becomes a vicious
cycle in which, for many, crime seems like the only way out.

A way to overcome the rise in criminal activity is to invest in education. Investing in education is
not only to guarantee a chair in school or college for someone, but to give students conditions that
allow them to fully immerge themselves in their activities. For example, breakfast and lunch can
be provided to students on public universities as well as transportation from strategic locations to
the educational institution. As a result, people graduating from these programs will have better
employment opportunities and will be less likely (prompt) to perform criminal activities.

To conclude, low resources and not enough opportunities were discussed as the primary factors
for the rising slope in criminal rate, and education has been proposed as a counter measure for it.
