It is stated by some people that nowadays, teenagers have lives that tend to be more stressful

than their fathers or grandfathers may have had when they were young. This essay will discuss this
point of view, explaining why people agree with it, but will also show how the opposite is more
likely in the eyes of the author.

Stress can be caused by a lot of things, from having a single test, to not knowing whether or not
you are going to find a job after graduating from school. However, most young people are usually
stressed these days for one main reason: comparison. With the latest technology and access to the
internet, many can compare easily their achievements or even their belongings with others. Also,
with the introduction of social media tools like Facebook, people learn a lot of details from the life
of others. This is an activity preferred by young men and women who instead of working on
(pursuing) their personal goals, develop some sort of envy towards those around them and get
stressed out of it.

While that point of view is applicable to some extent, it also does not take into account several
advantages of modern life. Finding engaging activities that teenagers can enjoy to relieve tension
is easier now than ever. If they want to practise a new sport and do not know which one, they can
easily study them with online platforms like YouTube and select the one they are most interested
in. This applies to activities like learning a new language or a new hobby as well, or find others that
share the same ideas and make new friends.

In my opinion, even though stress is present in everyone’s life at any point in time, today’s
teenagers have several ways to overcome it, whilst their previous generations did not.
