TPA Lesson Sequence

Outcomes:
 EN2-7B Identifies and uses language forms and features in their own writing
appropriate to a range of purposes, audiences and contexts
 EN2-10C Thinks imaginatively, creatively and interpretively about information, ideas
and texts when responding to and composing texts
 EN2-8B identifies and compares different kinds of texts when reading and viewing
and shows an understanding of purpose, audience and subject matter
 EN2-9B uses effective and accurate sentence structure, grammatical features,
punctuation conventions and vocabulary relevant to the type of text when responding
to and composing texts
Lesson One: For students to identify the various elements of framing and the effect it has on
the viewer. Students begin to recognise that composers intentionally use framing to achieve a
desired outcome.
Learning intention: To learn to identify how framing is used in visual images.
Success criteria: If you can correctly discuss what is framed in the image in terms of its
depth, point of interest, containment, foreground and background.

Lesson Two: For students to apply their knowledge and understanding of the four visual
elements (framing, social distance, angles and salience) by composing a written appreciation.
Students begin to recognise the importance of using a success criteria to improve their
writing.

Learning intention: To learn to identify different elements used in visual images.


Success criteria: If you can correctly identify which elements are used in the image and
outline how they are used.

Lesson Three: For students to co-construct written appreciation with the teacher. The teacher
will model to students how to effectively use a success criteria.

Learning intention: to learn to write an appreciation that discusses all four visual elements.
Success criteria: If you can contribute to a class discussion about the visual elements that are
used within multimodal text and help construct sentences to form an appreciation.

Lesson Four: For students to demonstrate their understanding of various visual elements in
multimodal texts through composing a written appreciation.

Learning intention: to write an appreciation which identifies the different elements used in
visual images.
Success criteria: if you can correctly identify which elements are used in the image and
outline how they are used.
