The Accounts of Richard Lariat

Long Shall the Glade Stand.

It is the Year of This Charter 1721, under the Administration most noble of Chairman Jendo Ixari. I am
Oroitz Eskell, census agent of Glade Harlu. I will be translating this work by Albish adventurer Richard
Lariat detailing his encounters with the various fauna of Vosca from the human perspective. Sir Lariot's
prose is difficult to comprehend if you do not speak his specific dialect of Albish, so I will attempt to
transliterate his words as well as possible.

Richard Lariot was a seasoned adventurer and traveler, having visited every major city on the continent
and having nearly died in most of them. His adventures eventually led him to both the deserts of
Tujanca and the depths of the Kamen Schwarzvald. What fate befell him eventually, nobody is certain,
as he disappeared during a voyage by sea after publishing his third revised Encyclopedia Vosca. It is
possible he is still alive, assuming humans have yet figured out how to live past the age of 60, but this
is doubtful. This account may be safely assumed to be Lariot's final work.

The Bisclavaret
Twas in ye forist of Souturn Galli yat twere met ye Bisclavaret,
Whoos fangs wir longe and as sharpe as ye blayds ofe a lorde's cutlary,
And whoos skinne it was that ofe a manne at one time and then of a wolfe at another,
He was well fortifyed agaynst swoard and arrowe alyke, but when subjected to sylver his flesh did burn
as tho twere ymmersed in hot oil.

Fanciful wording aside the Bisclavaret is a creature well known to Burdinadin science. They are
essentially disguised predators, able to appear as men or Din to infiltrate societies, and then pick off
and devour individuals from their chosen group with impunity. The Bisclavaret can transform at will,
though this takes about thirty seconds during which time the creatures is vulnerable. In its bestial form,
which appears something akin to a quasi-bipedal wolf, the Bisclavaret is a rapid and murderous
predator. The creature is not especially strong—only marginally more physically powerful than a
human—but it is fast, stealthy, and intelligent. In a direct confrontation it is likely to be overpowered
by several armed men, but it is more likely to flee from unwinnable engagements, and try to attack its
targets when they are vulnerable.

The rapid healing and supernatural toughness of the Bisclavaret is a matter of scientific inquiry—their
hides are not especially tough once removed from the creature [see reference document 1A:
“Bisclavaret Body Armor Project”] but while alive they have shown a remarkable resilience to physical
trauma. Silver overcomes this invulnerability, as does fire.

Characteristics
Environment: Anywhere where people live
Diet: People
Activity: Blends in with mortal populations, hunts monthly.
Spoor: The Bisclavaret leaves its skin behind when it transforms. Usually returns in human form to
dispose of the remains later.
Tracks: The Bisclavaret's paws leave distinctive tracks, and often remnants of its human footwear can
be found in them.
Behaviors: The Bisclavaret is no mere wolf, it is intelligent, cruel, and specifically targets sentient life.
The Bisclavaret must kill and eat a living thing at least once a month, and if that thing is not a sentient
being, it becomes more and more agitated in the interrim between its huntings, eventually taking on a
feral appearance even in disguise, with hirsuit features and yellow eyes.
Weaknesses: Silver. Injuries caused by silver, or injuries contacted by silver do not benefit from the
Bisclavaret's rapid healing, and do not heal instantly upon transformation to or from its wolf form.
Bisclavarets are also partially colorblind, even in human form. This does not mean that they see in
black and white, but rather that they have trouble differentiating between certain colors.

Abilities

Creature of the Night: A Bisclavaret gains a +8 bonus to Stealth rolls when in its bestial form.
Human: A Bisclavaret can use the Skills it had while Human even when in its monstrous form, but at a
-4 penalty because of its animalistic mind.

Rapid Healing: Bisclavarets recover from Wounds not inflicted with Fire, Magic, or Silver weapons at
a rate of 1 Wound Level per Phase. They recover from Bloodloss at a rate of 1 lost HLT per minute.

Infection: A person bitten by a Bisclavaret will suffer from infection if they survive. Every hour, the
individual must make an HLT test at RS 2. If they fail, their HLT is reduced by 1. At 0, the individual
must make a WIL test at RS 6. If they pass, they do not die, but instead stabilize, and have become a
Bisclavaret themselves. If they fail, they die. If an individual survives the Bisclavaret's infection for 24
hours, they recover normally.

Skinchanger: A Bisclavaret while in human form may transform into its monstrous form (for which
the stats are presented) over the course of 30 seconds. A Bisclavaret in monstrous form can transform
back into a human over the course of about ten minutes. This process is painful (though Bisclavarets
experience it as strangely pleasurable, like peeling off an annoying scab) and usually loud. The skin of
the previous form is left behind, and will remain unless disposed of.
