PRICE: $1.50 FOREWORD This tenth edition of Petroleum Facts and Figures brings up to date the statistical record of the American petroleum industry in the postwar petiod. It supplements the data over the longer term which was pub- lished in the ninth edition. Its 334 tables and 250 pages comprise a reference volume as accurate as its sources and as hopefully helpful as possible to those who are interested in the part petroleum plays in our daily lives. Coverage in this tenth edition has been extended in information about exploration, marketing, and world demand. Where, however, data are available in the ninth edition and there is no subsequent information, we have not included these tabulations. These exclusions opply primarily to information from the Bureau of the Census in the U.S. Census of Business—1948, The purpose of Petroleum Facts and Figures is to serve as an authoritative reference for oil men, students, educators, journalists, statisticians, economists, and cll others who have an interest in petroleum. This volume is the result of the helpful cooperation of many people. Credit lines beneath each table indicate the source of the data, and we express our appreciation to all who helped to develop the tenth edition.
