Webinar: The impact of COVID-19 on control of Dengue, TB, HIV and other infections

 From January – May 12, 2020, the top 3 infectious cases recorded by San Lazaro
Hospital are Dengue, Tetanus, and CAP-MR. In the total number of cases (240) in the
COVID areas, (88)37% are COVID positive, (8)3% are probable cases and (144)60%
are non COVID cases.
 The common signs and symptoms among the confirmed cases are cough, fever,
dyspnea, body weakness, sore throat, diarrhea, colds, anorexia, altered mentation,
ageusia and anosmia.
 The common causes of death are ARDS and sepsis. 68% of the mortality cases are
patients 60 years old and above. 86% of the mortality cases are 50 years old and above.
This is related to the deficiency in control of viral replication And more prolonged
inflammatory responses.
 Comorbidities such as hypertension, diabetes, pulmonary tuberculosis, breast cancer,
and HIV are related to the number of comorbidities in COVID cases. Patients with
cardiovascular diseases have higher mortality risk.
 Common coinfections in COVID cases are Influenza B, S. pneumoniae, E. faecalis, and
S. hominis.
 COVID-19 cases remained the bulk of admitted cases, with clinical features,
comobidities, and outcomes the same as most reported cases.
 No intervention is significantly associated with survival in comparison to a nonsurvivor
though trend favor those who received tocilizumab and most of the investigational drugs.
 Chest radiograph and CT scan are not only for diagnostic purposes, but can also be
used for prognostication and response to treatment.
 The presence of coinfections in COVID cases. will always be a challenge to physicians.
 Health care workers are the most vulnerable to acquire the disease. According to the
study, fever is not a common symptom found in HCWs that had the disease. Regular
testing to the HCWs is imperative.
