Five main differences between Skype and Microsoft Teams

i. Number of users: skype is only to limited 250 users per session while Microsoft Teams can
harbor up to 10,000 users of which 100 can actively participate
ii. Data Encryption: Skype offers end-to-end encryptions while MS Teams encrypts data in
transit and at rest and users secure Real-Time Transport Protocol (SRTP) for video, Audio,
files, chat and desktop sharing.
iii. Integration of Office 365: MS Teams is able to integrate Office 365 (Word, Excel,
PowerPoint etc.) unlike Skype
iv. Availability: MS Teams is currently only available to office 365 users and not as
independent application compared to Skype. In addition, to use skype, you ought to have a
skype user ID unlike MS Teams where you can invite anyone within or outside the
organization.
v. Licensing: Skye is free and only requires an ID while MS Team requires for fee to get user
rights.
