SECTION 1.0: PROGRAMMING AND CONFIGURATION METHODS
1.1 Introduction
This manual contains the information necessary to operate, service and/or field program the Series 7200
fire alarm control, using the front panel programming buttons/switches.
Authorized personnel may reconfigure or modify any input and/or output circuit provided they have the correct
password, which is field programmable.
Caution: Front panel programming is only applicable to conventional fire alarm systems using Quad Zone Units
(QZU) and Eight Zone Units (EZU). Do not use front panel programming for FireVac®7200 systems or 7200
systems with Analog Loop Units (ALU) or Releasing Device Units (RDU).

1.2 Programming Switches

The 7200 Series control is programmed by using the "PROGRAMMING", "RESET/LAMP TEST", "SILENCE"
and "ACKNOWLEDGE" switches together with various input/output circuit switches, depending upon
programming features.

1.3 Passwords
The passwords are defaulted (factory set) as follows:

LEVEL PASSWORD FUNCTION

Level 1 110000 View commands
Level 2 220000 Service programs:
Walk Test
Fire Drill
Set Time & Date
Level 3 330000 Front panel programming.
Level 4 440000 Password changing. Auto-configuration.

Passwords may be changed as desired.

1.4 Address Switches

The units that contain rotary address switches must have their addresses set. The locations of the switches
are shown in Section 1 of the 7200 Series Installation Manual (P/N 9000-0176) and described in Section 3 of
the same manual. The addressing switches must not be set to "0" (zero) and one unit MUST be set to "1.
In addition, multiple switches on identical units must not be set to the same position. (EXAMPLE: Switches
on more than one QZU must not be set to the same position.)

1.5 Program Modes:

The password protected modes of programming the 7200 Series are as follows:
Auto-Configure Program - This allows the System Control Unit to recognize all installed units and
generate a General Alarm default program. (Para. 2.1)
Caution: Systems with SCU Version 5.0 operating system cannot be auto-configured.

Password Programming - This allows changing of the current password or passwords. (Para. 2.2)
Front Panel Programming - This instructs the various units/modules to perform various applications
specific to the particular installation. (Para. 2.3)
Service Programs - "Walk Test", "Fire Drill", and setting the time and date are the service programs
presently available. (Para 2.4)
Generating Coded Patterns - Zone Coder Unit (Para. 3.1)

Non-password protected modes are as follows:

Degrade Mode - This program mode is jumper programmable and does not require a password.
Operation in this mode can be configured as silenceable or non-silenceable. (Para. 4.1)
Print Event Log - This program can print either as many as 500 events, or the last 20 events, as desired.
(Para. 4.2)

SECTION 2.0 PASSWORD PROTECTED PROGRAM MODES
Caution: Systems with SCU Version 5.0 operating system cannot be auto-configured.

2.1 Auto-Configure Program

When all the units have been installed into the system, and the individual unit address switches have been
properly set, a "Reset Program" must be performed to allow the System Control Unit (SCU) to recognize all
units in the system and automatically install a General Alarm default program which causes all alarm outputs to
activate in the event an alarm is received. This is a two-step process and requires a Level 4 password. The
switches and displays required are located on the SCU.
A) Hold the "RESET" switch down. While holding the "RESET" switch, press the "PROGRAMMING" (PROG)
switch once.
B) LET GO of both switches simultaneously. DO NOT hold both switches down.

C) If this is done properly, the display will read "13". If it reads anything else, you must repeat the above steps.

RESET PROG

D) Press the "ACKNOWLEDGE" (ACK) switch. The display will read "AC" or "CF". If "AC", follow the next
step,if "CF", proceed to step F), below.

ACK

E) Enter the Level 4 password (factory preset as 44 00 00) two digits at a time, by pressing the "PROG"
switch until the first digit of the password appears in the left display window, and then pressing the "SIL" switch
until the second digit of the password appears in the right display window. Press the "ACK" switch once. Repeat
for each successive pair of password digits until the complete 6-digit password is entered.

First Second

F) The display will show "CF" (configuring). This configuration display process may take 30 seconds or more.
During this time, the processor identifies all units in the system and all Analog Loop Units will search their
circuits and configure the devices installed. Various unit LEDs may flash; this is normal. At the end of the
display configuration process, the panel will reset itself and operate as a general alarm control.

ACK 0

G. If zone units (QZU/EZU) are to be added to a programmed system, the program may be modified. Follow
the above steps, but instead of "13" in Step C, press the "PROG" switch to advance the display to "14". This will
add zone units (QZU/EZU) to the system and use the General Alarm configuration. This will NOT work for out-
put units (QRU, etc.).

Page 2 of 26 9000-0175
2.1.1 Auto-Configure Program - Analog Loop Unit (ALU)
Caution: Systems with SCU Version 5.0 operating system cannot be auto-configured. We also
recommend that systems with ALUs be configured via the Field Configuration Program (FCP).

The ALU is automatically configured to detect and register the following:

• Ionization sensor set at 3% sensitivity.
• Photoelectronic sensor set at "Low" sensitivity.
• Heat sensor.
• Addressable output module
• Addressable output module modified for Form "C" operation.
• Monitor module.
• Addressable output modules are configured as silenceable outputs. Addressable output modules
modified for Form "C" operation are configured as non-silenceable. Both modules are included in
the system general alarm list, and will activate on any alarm condition.

Monitor modules are configured as the following types, depending on the range of addresses in which they fall:

Address Monitor Module Type Circuit Total

00 Illegal address
01-49 Manual Station 49
50-59 Supervisory Switch (non-latching) 10
60-69 Waterflow Switch (non-silenceable) 10
70-74 Future Use 5
75-79 Future Use 5
80-84 Fire Alarm Control Panel (FACP) 5
85-89 Remote Zone 5
90-98 N/O Contacts 9
99 End-of-line (used for Class "A" only)

Unless otherwise specified, all monitor modules latch into alarm and automatically restore trouble conditions
about one minute after repair.

Any changes to the above must be made via the Field Configuration Program (FCP).

9000-0175 Page 3 of 26
2.1.2 Auto-Configure Program - Remote Annunciator Unit (RAU)
Caution: Systems with SCU Version 5.0 operating system cannot be auto-configured.

When a Remote Annunciator Unit (RAU) is connected to the 7200 Series fire alarm control panel, during
"Reset Program", it is automatically configured as a zone alarm/trouble annunciator. Zones are assigned to
annunciator points in unit-address sequence.

If the number of zones in the system exceeds 16, a single RAU is not sufficient to annunciate all zones.
However, if multiple RAUs are connected, the zone assignments will continue on the second RAU, and so on
until all zones are assigned or all RAUs are exhausted.

For example, assume that a 7200 Series control is configured with two Quad Zone Units (QZU) addressed
as 1 and 2, and one RAU. The automatic assignments would be:

RAU Output Assigned to

1 QZU 1 Zone 1 Alarm

2 QZU 1 Zone 1 Trouble
3 QZU 1 Zone 2 Alarm
4 QZU 1 Zone 2 Trouble
5 QZU 1 Zone 3 Alarm
6 QZU 1 Zone 3 Trouble
7 QZU 1 Zone 4 Alarm
8 QZU 1 Zone 4 Trouble
9 QZU 2 Zone 1 Alarm
10 QZU 2 Zone 1 Trouble
11 QZU 2 Zone 2 Alarm
12 QZU 2 Zone 2 Trouble
13 QZU 2 Zone 3 Alarm
14 QZU 2 Zone 3 Trouble
15 QZU 2 Zone 4 Alarm
16 QZU 2 Zone 4 Trouble

If an RAU is to be configured as Alarm only, the 7200 Series control must be programmed via the Field
Configuration Program (FCP).
RAU outputs are not automatically assigned to Analog Loop Unit (ALU) input devices.

3.0 GENERATING CODED PATTERNS - ZONE CODER UNIT (ZCU)
NOTE: The ZCU cannot be used in conjunction with the FireVac®7200 Emergency Voice/Alarm System.

3.1 Description
The Zone Coder Unit (ZCU) is capable of generating over 1,500 distinct, coded patterns on a positive, non-in-
terfering and successive basis. Simultaneous alarms will result in one code sounding at a time, while up to eight
(8) alarmed codes will await their turn to sound. Upon completion of all zone codes, the ZCU may be pro-
grammed
to sound a non-code, fixed code, march time code or repetition of the last zone code (final code) until the sys-
tem is silenced or reset. It also can be set to provide 1/2 or 1 second pauses between pulses, and sound either
3 or 4 rounds of code. Series, non-interfering coded initiating devices (such as coded stations) may be used in
conjunction with the ZCU. However, due to the nature of coded devices, simultaneous operation of a number of
these
devices can result in lost signals.

3.2 Configuration
To configure a 7200 Series control with a ZCU Zone Coder Unit:

1. Set the System Control Unit (SCU) for a non-code (steady) notification appliance pattern, if necessary,
per Section 2.3. ALL fixed codes must be generated by the ZCU only.

2. Arrange the desired audible notification appliance circuits and/or relay outputs for coded operation via
the jumpers on each unit. (See Section 5.2.2).

3. If coded initiating devices (such as coded stations) are to be used in conjunction with the ZCU, the coded
devices should all be wired into the same initiating device circuit so the coded devices will not interfere with

Note: While the 7200 Series control can prevent interference between zone circuits, it cannot prevent loss
of signals if more than one coded initiating device is actuated simultaneously.
each other. If this is not practical, we recommend that the coded devices be connected to circuits in the same
Quad
or Eight Zone Unit. In this case, the QZU or EZU will prevent the different circuits from interfering with each
other.

3.3 Programming
The DIP switch on the ZCU should be set as shown in Table 3-1:
Please note the following:
• Each coded digit must consist of no more than 6 pulses.
• ZCU codes can contain either three or four digits only.
• The "zero" setting of the coding switches cannot be used for any of the first three digits. However,
the "zero" setting may be used to suppress the fourth digit when a three-digit code is desired.
• Per NFPA Standards, no round of code may consist of fewer than 3 impulses, and systems must
sound a minimum of three (3) rounds of code.
• Only one (1) ZCU may be installed in a 7200 Series control.

3.4 Zone Code Assignment

The ZCU can be used in any of the front panel switch programming codes 10 thru 12. (See chart 5.1)

Zone code programming for alarm signaling is as follows:

A. Refer to the "Zone specific I/O Area" on the Programming Chart in Section 5.0.

B. Select Program Code 11 on the System Control Unit (SCU).

C. Select "Additional Alarm Outputs" (Feature Code 60), or "Replacement Alarm Outputs" (Feature Code 63)
if the zone is not to activate the General Alarm outputs.

D. To code individual zones:

• Set the "ZONE DISCONNECT" switch(es) to "DISCONNECT" position for the desired QZU or EZU
zone to be coded. It is permissible to select the same code for multiple zones, if desired.
• Dial the 3 or 4 digit code by placing ZCU rotary switches SW1 thru SW4 to the desired digit settings.
Example: for 3-4-5 code, set SW1 to "3", SW2 to "4", SW3 to "5", and SW4 to "zero".
• IMPORTANT: Select also any additional or replacement alarm outputs to be activated by the zone.
NOTE: When all programming is complete, return all coding switches on the ZCU to the "ZERO" posi-
tion.
The Field Configuration Program (FCP) must be used to assign zone codes to Analog Loop Unit (ALU)

• Press "ACKNOWLEDGE" switch on the SCU.

• Return the "ZONE DISCONNECT" switch(es) to the normal position.

Repeat the above steps until all zones are properly coded.

4.1 Degrade Mode
This feature is jumper programmable to allow silenceable and non-silenceable operation during degrade
mode. See Section 5.2.2 or the 7200 Series Installation/Operating Manual (P/N 9000-0176) Section 3 for
jumper instructions for the various units.

4.2 Print Event Log

The 7200 Series control stores up to 500 events in memory. These comprise the first two events, followed
by the last 498 events. If a printer is connected, a printout of events may be selected in two ways:
• Print the first 2 and the last 498 events
or
• Print the last 20 events.

4.2.1 To print the entire 500 event log:

A) Press and hold the "RESET" switch. (This will cause the LAMP TEST feature to operate.)

B) Press the "SILENCE" switch and release both switches.

The entire log will be printed.

4.2.2 To print the last 20 events:

A) Press and hold the "RESET" switch. (This will cause the LAMP TEST feature to operate.)

B) Then press the "ACKNOWLEDGE" switch and release both switches.

5.1 FRONT PANEL PROGRAMMING CHART
This table shows the switch-programming functions organized by area. Options whose descriptions begin with
the word "Start" change the system operating mode immediately. "Set" options change the global configuration,
so they do not require any system switches to indicate selections. "Select" options set input, output, or I/O area.
To use these, set the zone and/or output switches to indicate the parts of the system to which the option should
apply.
For example: To add a relay to a zone supervisory output list, enter area 11. Press "PROGRAMMING" until the
display shows option 61. Disconnect the relay and zone (their yellow LEDs will light), and press
"ACKNOWLEDGE". The display will show "Pg" as the system modifies the configuration. When the display
returns to "11", return the disconnect switches to their normal positions.
