The Undeniable Truth of Masculinity

On May 1, 2019, senior editor for The Dispatch and former senior writer for National

Review, David French wrote, and published a persuasion article titled “Understanding the

Inescapable Reality of Masculinity” which discusses the repressive look the modern world has

on the difference between male and female. From the biological nature of human beings to tens

of millions of fatherless young men that lack a role model in their life, this controversial

understanding affects young men making them think they are doing something wrong and let

them forget the nature of there true identity. French makes the argument that there is a lucid

divergence between men and women even though there are few people that do not meet this

reality it does not mean we avoid the truth. French builds his veracity by speaking a plain fact on

how young men are more strong, hostile, and brutal than a girl. Furthermore, he states that being

aggressive doesn’t always mean being wrong, but it might also be useful.

The audience that French seems to be targeting in this article are those people who have

been feed false facts on their true nature. He states that the kids are being told to change who

they are forging them fill guilty and scared making the female think the men are permanently

aggressive and hostile. This is an example of the logical appeal in that French layout the use of

development to come to this conclusion. French also append the emotional appeal to his

argument by using examples of how millions of young boys lost their father as their mentor and

struggling to find a role model in their life. He considered the effect it caused on the young boys

in their school grades making them feel oppressed.

The ending of this article goes on to discuss “The proper response to the reality of

general masculine characteristics isn’t denial or indulgence. It’s development” (French). This
statement gives French more chance to express his solution on how to handle masculinity. His

profound examples in the article helped strengthen his argument and show how there could be

masculinity which was meant for positive results giving a convincing conclusion.

I completely agree with all the arguments mentioned in the article. Men and females

have been proven to have a muscular, mental, and emotional difference in the biological field.

Teaching false information on masculinity to men and females is showing short and long terms

effects in our daily lives. From creating guilt on young boys for who they are to making them

lose a role model in their life. This issue has a great impact on a huge population today. People

need to know the truth and we should not try to change nature by making a fake cover called

compatibility with modern life.

All in all, French’s argument is very persuasive, and he productively uses emotional and

logical appeals to convince the undeniable truth of masculinity.
