Applied Physics (BCS-1) : Fun Problem
Applied Physics (BCS-1) : Fun Problem
1. In an actual scene from a Punjabi movie that one of my instructors had the (mis)fortune
to see partially on TV, the hero Sultan Rahi is standing at the base of cliff (see the figure
below). The villain is standing at the top of the cliff. Sultan has two guns. He suddenly
has the ‘bright’ idea regarding how to kill the villain. He throws one gun vertically
upwards, and then shoots the trigger of this gun with the second gun, so that the
second gun is fired and the resulting bullet kills the villain. Set t = 0 at the time when
Sultan throws the first gun up. Assuming that the villain is 2 m tall, between what
values of time can he shoot the second gun in order to shoot the villain? Assume that
the bullet move infinitely fast, and that Sultan throws the first gun up with initial speed
50 m/s. [10]
