PALAV Global – Ghana 2019

From November 6th to November 19th, PALAV’s founder, Nitin Chouthai, went to
visit hospitals in Ghana to expand the impact PALAV has globally as a member of
the Rotary Vocational Training Team(VTT), a signature Rotary event.

While there, he taught the "Helping Babies Breathe Program", which provides
education and demonstration on how to save babies lives. He taught nurses and
doctors how to keep the heart going through cardiac massage, a vital technique

But training was not the only help he offered to these hospitals. PALAV was also
able to donate $28,000 worth of equipment to the Jirapa District Hospital, which
not only assists a baby’s respiratory system, but also diagnoses and treats
jaundice, and helps manage the temperature of a baby.

Dr. Chouthai went with the representative and team leader from Rotary, Dr.
Godfrey Bachieye, as well as Grace Kelly and Lynn Joinville. While there, they
noticed the tragic situation of a young child who had a rare genetic condition
which put a hole in his heart. PALAV and Rotary are working as hard as they can
to bring him to the United States ASAP to save his life.

What’s Next?

As we head into a new decade, PALAV has many new ideas to

make 2020 our best year yet!

We look forward to expanding our operations both locally, with

our breastfeeding awareness initiative, and internationally,
where we hope to expand into countries that we are not
currently in to ensure that we can help as many babies as
possible.

A Small Step

Recently, PALAV has supported a baby in a hospital in India

weighing only 410 grams (about 0.904 pounds). Not only is she
about 1/7th of a healthy baby’s weight, but she has also been
born with a rare heart disease that the hospital in India is ill-
equipped to handle.

The monumental efforts of the doctors and nurses on the

ground in India have been able to keep her stabilizes for now –
but she might not stay that way in the future since her
condition could change at any second.

As such, PALAV has taken on the task of bringing her to the

United states, where doctors, advanced medicine, and
technology can be used to nurse her back to health, and
hopefully ensure her a long, healthy life.
