Trainer Preparation Guide for Course 20347A: Enabling

and Managing Office 365
Design of the Course
This course is for IT professionals who want to acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to evaluate,
plan, deploy, and operate Microsoft Office 365 services, including its identities, dependencies,
requirements, and supporting technologies.

When you teach this course, you are likely to have students with a wide range of experience. Try to gauge
their experience level early in the course. You then can use this information to tailor your course delivery
to meet their needs.

This course describes how to evaluate, plan, deploy, and operate Office 365 services:

 Module 1 reviews the features of Office 365 and identifies recent improvements to the service. It
describes the process of provisioning an Office 365 tenant. This module also identifies the challenges
in deploying Office 365 and the benefits of the Microsoft FastTrack for Office 365 approach as
compared to the traditional plan, prepare, and migrate deployment process.

 Module 2 explains how to use the Office 365 console and the Windows PowerShell command-line
interface to manage users, groups, and licenses, and configure administrative access. This module also
explains how to manage user passwords and configure Multi-Factor Authentication.

 Module 3 covers the different types of client software that you can use to connect to Office 365. It
also explains the infrastructure requirements that the clients need to connect to Office 365, in
addition to how to configure different types of Office 365 clients.

 Module 4 explains how to plan, prepare, and implement directory synchronization as a methodology
for user and group management in an Office 365 deployment. It explains how to prepare an on-
premises environment, and install and configure directory synchronization. It also explains how to
manage Office 365 identities after you enable directory synchronization.

 Module 5 explains how to plan for a client deployment and ensure that users receive the tools that
they need to interact with Office 365 effectively. It also explains the planning process, how to make
Office 365 ProPlus directly available to end users, and how to deploy it as a managed package.
Finally, it describes how to set up Office telemetry so that administrators can track how users are
interacting with Microsoft Office.

 Module 6 describes Exchange Online, and explains how to create and manage recipient objects, and
how to manage and delegate Exchange security.

 Module 7 explains how to plan for and configure email flow, in addition to anti-malware and anti-
spam settings in Office 365. It also explains how to plan and configure policies for Exchange clients.
Additionally, it describes how to plan and configure a migration to Exchange Online.

 Module 8 explains how to plan and configure Skype for Business Online service settings. It also
explains how to configure Skype for Business Online user settings and clients, and plan for voice
integration with Skype for Business Online.

 Module 9 describes how to configure SharePoint Online services. It explains how to plan and
configure SharePoint site collections and external user sharing. It also provides a brief overview of
additional portals, such as the video portal.

 Module 10 describes how to enable and configure Yammer Enterprise. It also explains how to
configure OneDrive for Business, Office 365 groups, and Microsoft Teams.

 Module 11 describes the compliance features in Office 365 and how to manage them. It explains how
to plan and configure Azure Information Protection. Additionally, it explains the security features in
Office 365.

 Module 12 explains how to troubleshoot issues with Office 365 connectivity and services, and how to
monitor Office 365 service health.

 Module 13, which is the last module of this course, explains how identify federation works, and how
you can use Active Directory Federation Services (AD FS) to implement identity federation. It also
explains how to plan an AD FS deployment to support identify federation with Office 365. The
module describes how to deploy AD FS to enable single sign-on (SSO) for Office 365. Finally, it
describes hybrid solutions for Exchange Server, Skype for Business Server, and SharePoint Server.

Module Dependencies
Because this is an Office 365 course and you cannot revert changes in Office 365, students must complete
some earlier labs in order to complete the subsequent labs. The following list describes the lab
dependencies:
 The labs in modules 1 through 4 must be completed in sequence, as all other labs depend on the
completion of these labs.

 The labs in modules 5 and 6 are dependent on the labs in modules 1 through 4.
 The labs in module 7 is dependent on the lab in module 6.

 The labs in modules 8 and 9 are dependent only on the labs in modules 1 through 5.

 The lab in module 10 is dependent on the labs in modules 5 and 9.

 The lab in module 11 is dependent on the lab in module 9.

 The labs in modules 12 and 13 are dependent only on the labs in modules 1 through 4.

 Consult the Born to Learn forums at https://borntolearn.mslearn.net/forums for additional tips and
strategies—posted by your fellow Microsoft Certified Trainers (MCTs)—for teaching the learning
product.

 Review the updated information about the Microsoft Certification Program on the Microsoft Learning
Certifications website: https://www.microsoft.com/learning/en-us/certification-overview.aspx.

 Review the latest lab files from GitHub. Microsoft Learning is using GitHub to publish the lab steps for
courses that cover Office 365 or Azure, like this course. Using GitHub allows for collaboration
between the course’s authors and Microsoft Certified Trainers (MCTs) to keep the content current
with Azure platform changes. Using GitHub allows the MCTs to provide feedback and suggestions for
lab changes, and then the course authors can update lab steps and scripts quickly.

 When you prepare to teach this course, you should ensure that you are using the latest lab steps and
scripts by downloading the appropriate files from GitHub. Review the 20347A_Readme.txt file, which
is available from the Microsoft Learning Download Center for the location of the lab files on GitHub.

 As this course is only available from an Authorized Hosting Partner, students should use the lab steps
located in the online lab user interface. The hosting partner updates these labs steps dynamically as
changes occur in the Office 365 user interface. Therefore, these labs steps will be as up-to-date as
possible for each training session. The lab steps on GitHub are made available for you to prepare to
teach this course, and for you to provide feedback to the course’s authors.
