Title:

Development of portable battery System for Automotive Application

Aim:

Design and build a portable battery system charger to recharge car starter batteries

Description:

It is a known fact that under certain circumstances a vehicle cannot be started when a battery lacks
an adequate charge to deliver the required current to start an engine in the vehicle. Such a situation
arises when a vehicle is left unused for a longer period and there is no power socket (charging point)
in the underground garage or a car park. In these circumstances, it is necessary to charge the battery
and therefore there is a need for a portable battery charger that can recharge the vehicle starter
battery and bring it back to a workable state. Henceforth, the purpose of this portable charger
project is to have a modular design and to build two blocks (modules) of 5 Ah each that can be
connected with each other. The design of modules should be in a Legos style so that the modules can
be assembled and disassembled easily, which subsequently increases and decreases the capacity of
the complete system as per the requirement of the vehicle starter battery. Overall, these modules
will be built using the components such as 18650 cells, Battery Management System (BMS), Air
cooling system, housing made from renewable materials and safety devices.
